Mr. John Kapoi is a GIS and Remote Sensing Specialist by profession. He is working for the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa (WHO-AFRO), as GIS Specialist where he supports AFR/GIS Centre in Polio digital health interventions in the African region. His technical support in polio program is in spatial analysis and mapping activities, Polio risk assessment, management and updating country geo-profiles, information visualization, design and deployment of mapping guidelines and templates, GIS data quality assessment, capacity building and support in field based activities and projects and management of components of digital information collected from the countries for analysis.
Prior to his role with WHO assignment Mr. Kapoi worked with ACTED, Government of Kenya, Regional Centre for mapping of resources for development, UNHCR and World Vision international for a total of 10 years, as Information management/GIS Specialist where he provided technical support and expertise in the field of GIS, Remote Sensing, Data and Information Management in environment and natural resource management, where he technically supported in the modelling of land degradation, forest resource management, community based vulnerability and risk assessment for humanitarian assistance and drought monitoring.
