Hello v-aatheeque , Prince0011 , powerbidev123 unfortunately the replies didn't address fully my question. It is partly because I haven't clearly stated our backgroud clearly. So I'm going to add some clarification here - 1. I understand that cache.abf is not to be committed to git; and it's definitely git-ignored 2. when I said 'share'/'update' the cache.abf, I meant to share it outside the git repo 3. My team employs the approach of storing the cache.abf in onedrive, so everyone can go and get the latest cache.abf, and copy and paste back to their git repo. 4. It could take more than 30 min to refresh our dataset, so the team doesn't really want to do the refresh in their own laptop everytime. 5. I am drafting a workflow to the team so that the team would know when they have to update the cache.abf in onedrive. In pbix file, I observed that when I created a more complicated calculated column, althgouh it took a while to evaluate the column values, once the evaluation was completed and after I saved the .pbix file, I don't have to go through the extensive loading time again. I am guessing the evaluated column is stored somewhere in the dataset cache. Now my team is exploring PBIP, and I am figuring out what changes would lead to changes to the cache.abf. I naturally assumed calculated columns are stored in the cache.abf and when I commit my changes, I have to share the updated cache.abf file to my team as well. But base on an initial test, my team can see my newly created calculated column by just pulling from git, without the need to update the cache.abf. Nor were they prompted to do a manual refresh on the dataset. Does it mean power bi desktop evaluate all calculated columns everytime when it open the pbip file? Or power bi desktop selectively refresh calculated columns when the column does not exist in the cache.abf. It will be very useful to our team if MS Power BI team can provide with us more details on the cache.abf file, e.g. what is stored in the cache.abf file; would any of the following changes lead to the need to update the cache.abf? 1. calculated column creation 2. calculated column modification 3. calculated column removal 4. calculated column rename 5. calculated table creation/modification/removal/rename 6. I have been loading Facebook data to my power bi report for half a year and suddenly I received this error message. The error still persists after I have reset my credential and re-authorise Power BI service in Facebook. Here was an error when processing the data in the dataset. Thank you for your reply v-frfei-msft ! I have verified that within Power BI service, the report the user is seeing has the correct RLS applied. Does this implies I have defined the RLS correctly? Actually for users of different roles, would they download the same .odc file or would the file be different for users of different roles? I have set RLS on a dataset. The dataset of the report is some web content from sharepoint. For some roles the users are not allowed to see data of a certain segment. I have logged in their account and verified that the RLS has been successfully applied, and the users cannot see the restricted segment in report. However, when the user download the .odc file from "Analyse in Excel", they are able to see data from the restricted segment. This is not desirable as we don't want the user to be able to access the restricted data. Is this a bug or is this an expected behaviour?619Views0likes2Comments
