Power BI Embedded - tutorial
Hi all, I just came across Power BI Embedded Analytics - the case of Embed for your customers/App owns data. I am going through the tutorial link: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/developer/embedded/embed-customer-app From what I understand with this documentation, this case is ideal for sharing reports with external users and they do not need to sign in using PBI credentials to view the embedded content. Also, the app users do not need a license. I am trying to get an app on localhost working with this (Python app). Step 2 talks about app registration - I registered the app with a client secret. However, I do not have any API permissions configured. Are those needed? I am going for the service principal method. All other tenant level settings have been configured in Power BI. When I run my app with flask run, I get the error: 403 Forbidden: Error while retrieving Embed token Forbidden: {"error":{"code":"InvalidRequest","message":"Embedding is disabled on tenant level"}} What am I missing?Solved1.7KViews0likes5CommentsNew tenant to invite guest users (but using the same PBI, Azure) tenant
Hi all, I have a customer who wants a new project initiated. As part of the project, they need to sign up hundreds of users in Entra ID as guest users (through email invitation) who will eventually access workspace/workspace app in our existing Power BI tenant. The current workspace is backed by resources in Azure. Is there a way to separate these users from our tenant? For example, still use the same Power BI tenant so that the Azure resources don't need to be shifted, but have a way to separate the project users that need to be created in its own separate environment. We'd like to keep the current Azure environment as it is. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Hi folks, Is there a way to invite users to see Power BI reports in a secure way without assigning the users a license? We have a report with RLS, and we want that the users only should be able to see data from their department. We just want to be able to share the report in some kind of portal. What options are possible? I am looking at PBI Embedded license even, seems to be promising for development. Has anyone worked with it? Thanks!Solved686Views0likes6CommentsInviting Fabric (free) licensed users to a workspace
Hi folks, I have a user in my tenant who is looking at inviting guest accounts to a PBI workspace. So far, we are hesitant as the licensing part (Premium per user/Pro licensing) of it will be hard to manage with guest accounts. The customer is interested in a solution that allows report sharing in a secure way. Is there a way to share these reports with access controls with Fabric (free) licenses? I know so far that if it is a Pro/PPU workspace, all users of the workspace need the same license even to view reports. I saw the option of a workspace that is Fabric capacity - what ways can Fabric (free) licenses be invited with a Fabric capacity workspace? If there are other alternatives, I'd love to know. Thanks!Solved2.8KViews0likes5CommentsRe: Paid visuals from AppSource - Billing/Licensing
Can the paid visual be used with 'Publish to Web' feature? For example, a user who obtained their license through self-service. Would they be able to develop the report and publish it to web, so that the visual is visible to general web? If not, do you have any recommendations for this? Another question is that I guess there could be a couple of ways to install the paid visual - either they get the license themselves, or they an admin installs it for them and then assigns it to them? What is the recommendation or best practices in this case?879Views0likes2CommentsPaid visuals from AppSource - Billing/Licensing
Hi everyone, I have a user who wants to install a paid visual from AppSource. The paid visual has a plan based on the number of users using the visual per month. How does the billing work? Would it be billed to the entire tenant? The user can install a free trial for a month, but I am unsure how the billing happens after the month passes since the free trial did not ask for a credit card from the user. Currently, only a select users are allowed to install custom visuals in my tenant through the tenant setting: Power BI visuals > Allow users created using the Power BI SDK.Solved945Views0likes5CommentsLimiting workspace access to only the tenant region
Hi folks, A customer in my tenant needs their workspace to be secure and compliant to data residency requirements. For this, they'd like to ensure that their reports are not accessible outside of the tenant region. What are the ways to do this? Has anyone implemented this? I was looking into tenant settings that have an option to configure inbound/outbound network rules on the workspace level - would that be something that could help? Thanks in advance.Solved1.3KViews2likes5CommentsVNet data gatweway creation
Hi all, I have a new request for creation of VNet gateway. We have a previous capacity (F2) that was being used for another workspace. For the new gateway to be created, can this capacity be reused? Or is it recommended to have a brand new capacity created and tied to the new gateway? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!Solved832Views2likes5CommentsInstalling Power BI Visuals from AppSource
Hi all, I have a use-case where a client in my org requires visuals from AppSource. Currently, installation of visuals in the PBI service environment is not enabled. What is the best way to allow this? How does installing visuals work for a workspace? Or does it have to be installed globally using Organization visuals? Is there a way to have visuals installed for a workspace instead of the entire organization? In the future, the clint even wants paid visuals. Which is why I was looking for a way to install it on a workspace and have the visual be available for everyone who is a part of the workspace, without extra steps or installations. Thanks in advance!Solved2.3KViews0likes2Comments
