Allow Group Data in viewer mode
The Group Data option is a good way to on the fly group data entities together and get a tailored view of data that suits your analytics use case - but it seems to only be available when you have the dataset and the report in the same file and work in that file? I think this feature is mostly beneficial for report viewers and report builders with no direct influence over the underlying dataset (if you can alter the dataset, then you are essentially able to add the grouping in the power query step). Report builders should be able to add groups when connected live to a dataset. Report viewers should be able to add groups when interacting with a report.157Views1like1CommentRe: PowerBI Premium Autoscale Time Limit to 10 minute intervals
Agree - We see spikes in usage each morning, but they only last for an hour or so. Would be great to autoscale during that period, but with current pricing/activation logic that additional v-core would be active all day, every day, every year. That essentially removes all upsides with the autoscale functionality. Please make it more flexible!276Views0likes0CommentsRe-phrase tenant issue e-mails "We’ve detected a report availability issue with Power BI"
We've enabled "Receive email notifications for service outages or incidents" in our tenant. Last week we started to get a lot of emails stating: We’ve detected a report availability issue with Power BI You’re receiving this email because we’ve detected a report availability issue with Power BI. As a result, users in this tenant may experience issues with accessing reports in Power BI. Dashboards and reports may fail to load. Our engineers are investigating the issue. We'll send additional status updates by email. If you have questions, please contact us. And then we get emails stating: "We’ve resolved a report availability problem with Power BI Our engineers have fixed a report availability problem with Power BI. Users in this tenant may have experienced problems with accessing reports in Power BI. Dashboards and reports may have failed to load. However, the problem is corrected, and Power BI is up and running again. If you have questions, please contact us. After contacting Microsoft Support to find out what this is all about it turns out it is just auto triggered emails based on usage metrics in our tenant and that we are supposed to either optimize our capacity or upgrade it to a larger SKU. Therefore - the e-mails are severely misleading since they state that Microsoft has engineers working on the issue and that Microsoft has engineers that have solved the issue - but you don't. You expect us to fix the issue, so that's what the emails should state, don't you think?173Views4likes2CommentsAllow measures to be created in Model view
We should be able to create new measures when we are in the "Model" view. As for now we have to switch to "Report" to get the options to "New Measure", "New column" and "New quick measure". When you develop a data set you often work mainly in the model view, building relations, hiding "base" measures etc. To build new calculated measures on top of those hidden measures forces you to switch back and forth between "Report" and "Model" all the time for no good reason.140Views2likes2CommentsDecouple workspaces and apps
Workspaces and apps should not be as closely coupled as they are today. Workspaces are often used as collaboration and sharing areas within a team or division in the company, while apps are containers where you gather content for a specific target group of consumers. Even if we change our mindset and treat workspaces as containers for a specific target group instead, we still have issues since there are a lot of content that should be consumed by several different target groups, but not all content targeted for one group should be consumed by all members of of another group. By todays design this means that we have to duplicate the same report in different workspaces to pack it into different apps. If apps and workspaces could be decoupled we could create an app for a specific target group and cherry pick reports and dashboards from different workspaces to be featured in that app. That would be good.347Views18likes2CommentsSee lineage for gateway connections
It would be great to have a lineage view when editing the gateway data sources to see which datasets that use which data source in the gateway. Use cases are for instance to easily identify data sources that are no longer used or reports that use data sources that have been replaced by others.413Views25likes3CommentsAdd carousel feature to mobile app reports
Add functionality to be able to horizontally swipe a carousel of different visuals in the mobile app. By doing so, limiting the vertical scrolling needed. Very good in cases where we need to display a measure by category - for different time intervals, eg. Sales by Sales channel - Yesterday/Current Month/Current year.114Views4likes1CommentAllow report building on published datasets but not allow to change the data model
Today when we publish a dataset and let it be open for users to connect to and build reports on, they automatically gets access to change the datamodel in the published dataset. That means they can wipe out any Row Level Security we've applied to the dataset. This renders RLS only efficient for consumers of reports, and useless to maintain security/data limitations for report builders. We need to be able to publish datasets for report builders where they can connect to them and build new reports/visualizations on them, but not let them alter the published datamodel. The data set should be possible to publish as a "blackbox", users should be able to connect to them and on report level add and merge new datasources sharing any dimension in the published dataset, but they should not be able to alter the published dataset.157Views8likes2Comments
