The Upcoming Events board is a great place to share information on future Fabric events with the rest of the community.

To start an event post, click the Create an Event button under the title and search.

Filling out the form

Gather the following information and complete the form:

Cover image (370 x 300 or larger, with the same aspect ratio)

Event title

Event details (this can be a longer text that can include an image)

If in-person or hybrid, please make sure to include the location.

Applicable tags

Event type (In Person, On-line, or User Group)

Start date and time (required)

End date and time (required)

Event URL: Be sure to include a URL in the description as well as the field if you would like to promote a registration page or a website with more details on the event.

Once you select "Publish" at the bottom right of the screen, you will see your event in a card on the Upcoming Events board.

From here, you can go back and edit your post, as with any other forum post, or navigate to the Upcoming Events listing page to see how others will view your post when looking for events.

If you need assistance with an events post, please contact a Community Manager.

How to find community blogs

How to become a blog author

How to create, submit and edit blogs in the community

How to find community blogs
Available in the header on any community or Ideas page.

How to become a blog author

From any of the community blog landing pages, find the "About the community blog" section on the right-hand rail. Within the summary, you will find the hyperlink to the Admin's profile to contact. You can message them from their profile page.

How to create, submit and edit blogs in the community

Navigate to the desired community blog and select Create a Blog Post.

As a blog author you can either select Save Draft and return to continue working or Submit for Review at the bottom of the page.

As a blog author you can review any of your blog drafts or blogs submitted for review by selecting My Drafts from your avatar in the top right-hand side.

You can select to look at just blogs by selecting Filters. Under "Content Type", select the Blogs checkbox.

You can also filter by status of the blog.

If you decide to edit your blog after its been submitted for review, select the blog title from the "Manage Content" dashboard. Select Edit Draft at the top of the page.

Once the changes have been made, select Save Draft to continue to work or Submit for Publication at the bottom of the page.

When you submit your blog for review, the reviewer can Edit, Return to Author, Submit for Publication, Post (immediately) or Schedule Publication.

NOTE: Blog reviewers will determine whether submitted blogs will be published. Blog reviewers have permission to make necessary edits. If your blog is chosen to be published, the blog reviewer will determine the date and time of publication.

The blog publication time reflects when the blog was actually published, both when published immediately or when scheduled for publication in the future. For this reason, the blog publication date on your blog may or may not reflect the actual day/time it was written or submitted for review.

If your blog is returned to you, you will receive an email notification. The notification will include a direct link to your blog draft and the blog note it was drafted in.

You can now edit your blog and either save as draft or submit again.

If your blog is scheduled for publication, you will receive an email notification. The date and time of the blog publication will reflect the actual post time, not the time it was drafted or scheduled for publication.

If your blog is immediately posted, you will receive an email notification that includes a link to the blog and your blog publication.

You can edit your own blog after it has been published. The changes can either be saved as a draft or you can submit the changes submit for publication. The edits follow the same blog workflow as a new blog and the live blog will not reflect change(s) until published or scheduled for publication.

If you need support for your blog, please submit a support form, and choose Other Issues: aka.ms/FabricCommSupport.

Fabric & Azure Data User Group Program Requirements & Benefits

<LI-TOC indent="15" liststyle="disc" maxheadinglevel="5"></LI-TOC>

Getting Started: User Group Program

We’re thrilled to have you as part of the Azure Data and Microsoft Fabric User Group network.

User group leaders play a critical role in bringing people together to learn, share experiences, and grow their careers across the data platform ecosystem. While you’re not expected to have everything figured out on day one, understanding the program requirements and benefits will help set your group up for success.

This document outlines what it means to participate across our different user group networks and the options available as your group grows.

Because the Fabric Community Platform functions as a “look book,” all user groups are required to maintain an external URL where their group actively engages with members. This could be a platform such as Meetup, LinkedIn, Facebook, or another community site.

Growing into the Meetup Networks

As your group grows, you may choose to apply to join either the Fabric Meetup Network or the Azure Data Meetup Network. These networks offer additional program benefits and operational support, and each has specific requirements that your group must meet.

To help groups take this next step, we offer a special partnership with Meetup, which allows qualifying groups to use Meetup Free+, making it easier to manage events and scale your community.

That said, Meetup is not required. Many groups successfully use other platforms such as LinkedIn, Luma, Eventbrite, or Facebook. What matters most is choosing the platform that works best for you and your community.

Choosing the Right Path

You’ll find the full requirements and benefits for both the Fabric User Group Program and the Azure Data Meetup Network outlined in this document. Our goal is to clearly show the different paths available, so you can choose the option that best aligns with your group’s goals, whether you’re just getting started or ready to grow.

We’re excited to support you at every stage of your user group journey.

Microsoft Fabric & Power BI Community User Groups Program Guide

Program Overview:

Microsoft Fabric and Power BI Community User Groups are community-led groups that bring together data professionals, developers, students, and technology enthusiasts to learn, connect, and share expertise across Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Data Factory, Real-Time Intelligence and other related topics.

User groups may be local, virtual, or hybrid and are supported by Microsoft through the Fabric Community User Groups Program. The program empowers leaders to build inclusive, sustainable communities while connecting members with Microsoft experts and the broader data platform ecosystem.

Program benefits

As part of the Fabric Community User Groups program, groups receive support, inspiration, a deeper connection to the Fabric Community, and the following benefits:

A channel to communicate directly with Microsoft team members and hear updates from Microsoft

Program requirements

To participate in the Power BI/Fabric Community, your group must meet the following criteria:

Have a group leader and co-leader who will represent your group to Microsoft. (Must have a minimum of 2 leaders)

Maintain a published Code of Conduct that is easily accessible from the group's homepage.

Do not charge members a fee to attend group meetings, except when venue or hosting costs (e.g. food and beverages) are passed on to members.

Maintain a regular meeting cadence and have at least six (6) meetings per year that relate to or cover analytics & data products, features and services that fall under the Microsoft Azure Data umbrella,

Do not use the group to enrich or advance yourself, your business, your employer or your co-workers, or for lead generation purposes,

Agree to emphasize the importance of variety and balance in your speaker lineup, ensure a broad representation of ideas and experiences, avoid exclusive focus on a single company’s representatives and instead encourage the inclusion of speakers from different organizations.

Leadership changes

We understand operations and leadership of groups may change over time. If the group leader or co-leader is leaving the group, the Fabric Community User Groups program team should be notified via email by the group leader at:

ms-data@microsoft.com to ensure group information is updated.

Code of conduct

People are the foundation of a community. For a community to thrive, it must encourage diversity of thought and enable the safety of its members. Microsoft is deeply committed to diversity and inclusion. All Microsoft employees enjoy a safe work environment and a culture of mutual respect and responsibility. Our team members and community partners should enjoy the same environment. The Fabric Community User Group Leaders Code of Conduct can be found at https://aka.ms/FabricUGLeaderCodeofConduct

Conduct issues seldom arise. But when they do, they are often very public and very passionate. It is best for the community to be prepared with:

A clear and accessible Code of Conduct that states the norms under which projects or events operate

Encouraged behaviors and community guidelines

A list of common behaviors that are prohibited (e.g. harassment)

An Issue Resolution Process for addressing cases where these norms are not being maintained

A code of conduct should be displayed on your group landing page or website. If you don't currently have one, review the following examples:

However, certain pass-through costs are allowed (i.e. venue, beverage, and other hosting fees).

Meeting cadence

Many groups cover a broad range of topics throughout the year. Your group should host a minimum of 6 meetups covering Microsoft Azure Data products & features each year. These include but are not limited to Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Real-Time Intelligence, Data Factory, Data Science & Data Engineering in Fabric, Data Warehousing in Fabric, the Fabric Platform, Databases in Fabric.

Joining the program

Admission into the Fabric Community User Groups program requires a simple application process. Groups are evaluated by the program team and reviewed on a regular basis throughout the year.
Bi-monthly group leader calls that allow you to connect with other Azure Data evangelists and Microsoft experts, share best practices, and learn from other community leaders.

Group leadership

Groups participating in Azure Data Tech Groups are asked to identify both a group leader and a co-leader who will act as the primary and secondary contacts for the group. This ensures that if the leadership of a group changes over time, it will not be orphaned out of the program due to lack of a valid contact.

Badges are a great way of keeping track of your accomplishments in the community. In order to view your badges, select Profile from the drop-down under your avatar on the top right.

Once you get to your profile, you can see all your current badges.

Click View All Badges to see a list of some of the badges available to earn. You can hover over each badge to get a short description. Grayed out or faded-looking badges mean that you can earn a certain badge, but you haven't unlocked it, yet. You unlock a badge for the initial action, as you reach certain milestones for the amount of times an action was performed. Some badges are more challenging to receive than others.

This support article covers the following topics:

Following and unfollowing a topic or board

Following a category

Following a tag

Managing your follows

Follows ensure you receive automated messages about the most recent posts and replies that interest you. There are multiple ways in which you can follow content and boards in the community.

Following and unfollowing a topic or board

You can follow a single topic or an entire board by selecting the bell icon at the top right of your screen, while you are viewing the topic or in the general board overview respectively.

A confirmation message will be displayed at the top of your screen:

You can distinguish between a followed and unfollowed topic by the icon above the bell. An unfollowed topic will display a plus sign:

While a followed topic will display at check mark:

You can unfollow a topic you are following by selecting the bell icon at the top right of your screen. A confirmation message will be displayed stating that you have unfollowed the discussion.

Following a category

After you have selected the bell icon, you will be given the option to follow all boards in the category or only follow specific boards within the category. If you select All Boards in this Category, you will automatically follow any boards that are added to the category at a later time.

After you have selected the board(s) you would like to follow, click Follow.

Following a tag

You can find the tags at the bottom left of a post.

Click on the tab to filter by the selected tag.

Managing your flows

Alignment: Align your text in a variety of ways; left-aligned, centered, right-aligned, or justified.

Lists: Create bulleted or numbered lists.

Indents: Choose left or right indents.

Table of contents

For longer pieces of content (such as tutorials or this article, for example) you have the option to create a table of contents. This will provide readers with clickable links for sections they would like to visit. First, format each section with a Heading in order to enable the table of contents feature. Next, select the Table of Contents button and the layout box will appear. You can drag and drop the box anywhere in your post.

Note: This will be an option only if at least one heading exists.

Emoticons

You can select from over 2,500 emoticons within eight categories. To insert an emoticon, simply click on the respective icon and choose from the menu.

Inserting and editing media

Upload images or use images from your account album, changing their alignment and size in-line as needed.

There are multiple options for inserting an image with the toolbar. Once you click on the camera icon, you will see a pop-up that allows you to choose from the following tabs:

From Computer

From Image URL

From Video URL

Tables

You can also insert and edit tables. Simply select the number of rows and columns in the Table menu to create a new table.

Code samples

You can also include code samples, such as the HTML sample shown below. Samples of code in HTML/XML, JavaScript, Java, CSS, PHP, Ruby, Python, C, C#, and C++ can be included in your post.

<li><strong>Lists:</strong> Create bulleted or numbered lists.</li>
<li><strong>Indents:</strong> You can use left or right indents.</li>

Using @ mentions

This support article covers:

User Mentions

Content Mentions

@ mentions allow users to call out other community members and community content within a post. This is helpful for responding to a forum topic when you want to link it to another post that includes helpful information.

Community supports two kinds of @mentions:

User Mentions

Content Mentions

User mentions

With user mentions, users can call out specific users in their posts and invite them to join the conversation. You might @ mention a user when you know they can answer a question or supply valuable insight into a thread. Also, you may just want to ensure they see when you directly thank or give them public praise.

For example, you want to thank a user (admin) for their great answer to a question you asked. After clicking the “Reply” button, enter an "at" symbol (@) followed by their username, “@admin”. As you type, a pop-up menu appears with matching names. You can either continue typing the name or select a name from the list.

When you select or finish entering the name, the mentioned username is highlighted, as shown here:

When users are mentioned in posts, they receive an email notification.

Content mentions

Content mentions enable users to call out specific posts within the body of a message. This is a way to quickly embed a link to other content in the community. Content mentions are supported in all conversation styles in both topics and replies/comments.

For example, you respond to a forum topic and want to link to another post that includes helpful information. Type the @ symbol and any keywords in the subject or body of the message you want to link to. As you type, search results with messages matching that keyword organized by conversation style appear in the pop-up. You may enter multiple words in the pop-up. When multiple words are entered, all words must be present in the subject and/or body.

When you select an item in the list, the subject of the post is highlighted with a hyperlink in the body of your message.

When content is mentioned in posts, authors are sent email notifications.

About Inline Replies and Threading

Inline replies as well as the threaded display style both help organize replies; this makes the context of each reply more visually clear.

When you reply to the main post, it is displayed inline with the main post.

When you respond to another reply within the discussion, your post is shown indented underneath that reply.

You will be able to sort a thread by Most Liked, Oldest or Newest.

This helps to keep the conversation context relevant, allowing other users to see where your contribution fits into the conversation.

Threaded topic display

If a thread is solved, you will see the accepted solution(s) right below the original post. This helps bring the relevant information to you first instead of having to search through the thread for the solution(s).

Replying to a topic

When you click Reply to the topic, the reply box opens directly below the post. Additionally, you can utilize the toolbar to format your reply.

After you post your reply, the reply is displayed inline with the topic.

Reply to a reply

You can now Reply to responses made to the original post. Replies to the main topic are always displayed inline with it. Replies made to other responses will be displayed indented below the reply.

When you click Reply to an existing response, the reply box opens directly below it, and you will have access to the toolbar to format your own reply.

In this support article, we cover the following topics:

Microsoft Code of Conduct

Making a Post

Galleries

Things to Keep in Mind When Posting to the Galleries

Replying to a Post

Editing a Post

Deleting a Post

Accepted Solutions

Protect Your Privacy

Posts Marked as Spam

Microsoft Code of Conduct

Before posting in the Fabric Community, please take a moment to read about the Microsoft Code of Conduct. As a participant of these forums, you agree that you will uphold the Microsoft Code of Conduct and are responsible for all activities and content you post/upload. In addition to upholding this Code of Conduct, you are responsible for adhering to all applicable local and national laws. This is your community. Help us to keep it safe, friendly, fun and helpful.

Making a Post

To ask a question in the community, navigate to the discussion board that most closely aligns with your topic. A full list of the general forums can be found on the home page of the community, and are identified by the 'chat bubble' icon. Click the New Message link. In the Subject field, enter your message title. Tip: Make your subject clear and concise, as it's the only part of the message that shows up on the message-listing page. In the Body field, type your message. Be sure to include all necessary details, especially for technical topics.

You will need to choose a label before posting. Labels are 'categories' that will make it easier to search through and filter for various labels of interest. Labels vary by community and can include the following examples:

Need Help

Have a question? We're happy to help! But keep in mind - someone else might have already received help - so be sure to do a quick search on your question before posting a new thread.

Tips & Tricks

Educate and show how to use the product and create cool stuff.

Tutorial Requests

Having a problem with finding a tutorial? Need a tutorial, but one does not seem to exist? Likely someone in the community has one or is anxious to create one.

Interesting Links

Seen a great blog post, tutorial or article? Let everyone know. Post links and comments here.

Format and spell-check your message, as needed. Click Submit Post.

Galleries:

Galleries are a great way to showcase how you can use the Fabric Products.

Each community has its own Webinars and Video Gallery. These galleries are your home for short, "snackable" video tips, tricks, and guides on the Fabric products and everything related to how they can be used. Our videos come from users like you!

The Power BI Community has the Data Stories Gallery. A place where you can show off your reports and find inspiration in the work of others.

Things to keep in mind when posting:

Keep these things in mind when posting to the galleries:

Remember your Showcase is visible to anyone visiting the Galleries.

Review your Showcase carefully before publishing to make sure you have not inadvertently included any sensitive or confidential information.

Make sure you have the rights to share any images, graphics or other visual elements incorporated in your Showcase.

If you have your own license terms, insert those in the body of the post; otherwise you are welcome to have your Showcase subject to the Standard Showcase License Terms in Exhibit A of the Terms of Service. You can find the Terms of Service here:
Microsoft Fabric Community

Remember to include your privacy statement if your Showcase is collecting any customer data.

By publishing your Showcase, you agree to the Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not publish.

Replying to a Post

Click Reply to respond to a post. The Reply Message screen is similar to the Post Message screen, with these differences: When you reply to a post, the subject line is filled in automatically. You can change it if you want. You can paste the message to which you are replying into the body of your reply by clicking Quote Message. Your reply is added to the existing thread. It won't create a new thread.

Editing a Post

You have the ability to edit your own post, after it has been created. Please use this option sparingly to avoid confusion and allow readers of the thread to follow the conversation.

To edit your original post in a new thread that you created, click on the three dots on the top right under Topic Options, and you should see an option menu.

2. Select Edit Message.

3. To edit a reply in an existing thread (either yours or someone else's), click on the three dots on the top right of your message, and you should see an option menu.

4. Select Edit Reply

Deleting a Post

You have the option of deleting your own posts, for example, if you have accidentally created two identical threads. Just like the edit option, this option should be avoided, if possible, in order to avoid confusion. Please note that you can only delete a post if it has no replies. This applies to both new threads and replies to a conversation. You won't see a deletion option for any post with a reply.

To delete a message, a new thread that you have created, click on Topic Options on the top right of your post.

2. Select Delete Topic from the drop-down menu.

You will be taken to a page that will ask you to confirm or cancel the deletion. Please make sure that you really want to delete the post, as the action cannot be undone, once completed.

Accepted Solutions

An Accepted Solutions is a way for you to choose the reply that best answers a question that you've posted. To mark a message as a solution, click Accept as Solution on the reply. When you accept a solution, both the question and the solution get special icons and links that take you directly from the question to the answer. You can mark a solution as accepted only for questions that you started. Community moderators can also mark accepted solutions. Accepting a reply as a solution makes a few visual changes to that message and the thread itself. An “Accepted Solution” icon will appear below the thread name in boards and search results, making it more obvious (and easier for you to spot).

Protect Your Privacy

Always double-check to make sure that your post does not include personal or otherwise sensitive information. This can include (but is not limited to):

Real names

Your date of birth

Physical addresses

E-mail addresses

Phone numbers

Credit card information

Log in information, especially passwords

URLs

Product codes

Sensitive information can also include sales figures and other information considered confidential by your company. Use your best judgement when sharing any data related to the company that you work for.

To protect your privacy, you should either fully exclude sensitive information or black it out in screenshots. If you do expose PII information, that content may be removed from your post by community administrators.

Posts Marked as Spam

The platform scans for spam automatically and we monitor all flagged posts to determine whether or not the content should be unmarked. There are multiple variables the platform scans for and I have no way of knowing exactly what triggered your post to be flagged. Some common trigger items are copy and pasting content in and multiple edits.

Don't worry if your post was ever marked as spam. We monitor post reports during regular business and make sure to unflag anything that is not spam. In addition, you can also contact us directly from the option at the top of the reported post by choosing to submit an abuse report.

If you come across spam or other questionable content in posts, you can report it by selecting "Report Inappropriate Content" from the Options dropdown menu represented by the three dots on the top right of a post.

FAQ on the Fabric User Groups

We’re excited about the launch of Fabric user groups! Our goal is to help you achieve more with your community through these Microsoft empowered user groups.

Below are the most common questions we’ve heard from the community:

What has Microsoft launched?

New online tools to help you find, join, start, and run local user groups. We are supporting the user groups with an administrative team and connection to local Microsoft employees around the world.

User groups are currently in public preview. They are free and everyone is welcome. You can join a user group or create your own by visiting Fabric User Groups.

What about user groups that already exist?

User groups can operate on the Microsoft ecosystem and their current platform(s) to organize and host events. We believe the new Fabric community experience will offer you unparalleled features that will enable you to create and grow your user groups like never before. Our Fabric community team has user group coordinators who will be dedicated to assisting leaders and ensuring members have a great experience in group and event creation as well as other logistical tasks.

Our Microsoft Community Program Managers will also be working more closely with our user group leaders supporting requests for speakers, topics, content, and more.

How is this related to Microsoft’s other user group offerings on Microsoft Tech Community (MTC) or Azure Tech Groups?

Unlike MTC, this new offering solely focuses on the Fabric user group experience.  Microsoft Tech Community is a partner just like Microsoft Answers and Microsoft Azure Tech Groups.

Will you support user groups for all regions?

Yes. Our vision is to enable a thriving local community of users across the world so community members can network, learn, and support each other.

What support will you provide for user group leaders?

Our vision is a user group experience that empowers you to create and grow your community together with Microsoft, enabling you to:

Attract new members through exposure within the products that alert customers to local groups and events, on Microsoft community sites, and at Microsoft events.

Manage membership and events with easy-to-use tools and support from Microsoft product teams.

Enjoy leadership rewards and connections with Microsoft.

We will have dedicated user group administrators available via in-community private messaging and email for your questions and feedback.

Additionally, we’ve developed a user group playbook (available via the Community Tenant - learn how to sign up below) and learning series with veteran user group leaders and our community teams to share best practices, templates, and how-to's.

Access our User Group Leader Functionality support article for more information about being a User Group Leader.

Can you provide customer lists so leaders can invite them to participate in our local chapter?

Due to data privacy reasons, we can’t share customer lists. However, we plan to enable in-product notifications to help users find local user groups and events. Leaders will be able to contact their members via private message in-community and on the discussion area of the user group page.

Will leaders have access to Microsoft Teams to host virtual user group meetings?

Yes, Microsoft Teams is provided as part of the Community Tenant offering from the Microsoft Teams Engineering team. Register for your free Community Tenant today by following our "Accessing the Microsoft Community Tenant" support article.

Can my user group continue to receive sponsorship from ISVs/SIs partners?

Absolutely. Continue with your partnerships as you’ve always done. We view each user group as an independent organization that can manage sponsorships as they see fit.

I am a partner, can I have a user group?

Yes, however, our code of conduct has language regarding using user groups as a recruiting tool or vendor sales presentations area.

Will you support national or other “collections” of user groups (e.g., a top-level community with chapters)?

Yes. Our focus is on empowering a large number of individual user groups. We hope leaders organize and collaborate with each other to encourage their members to succeed and do more at work. We will support leaders and identify the best ways to support them and their members.

Will the User Group Administrator have resources for in-person meetings (i.e. booking conference rooms/meeting sites and hosting virtual meetings)?

Our User Group Administrators will have access to resources, but we’re still working on the details. Our team will also be providing all user group leaders with a best practices playbook, templates, how-to's, and demos on how to best utilize the user group experience in our communities and also on Microsoft Teams.

Is there a Code of Conduct for user group participation?

Yes. Microsoft wants the user group experience to be a respectful, friendly, fun, and inclusive experience for all participants. As part of the user group sign-up process, participants are asked to agree to the Code of Conduct.

Microsoft will not tolerate harassment or discrimination based on age, ancestry, color, gender identity or expression, national origin, physical or mental disability, religion, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable local laws, regulations, and ordinances.

If you have a concern or complaint related to your user group, first talk to your user group leader.  If that is not practical or does not resolve your concern, please contact Microsoft directly at fbccommunity@microsoft.com, which goes to our User Group Coordinator. You can also report concerns directly to Microsoft’s Business Conduct Hotline (1-877-320-MSFT or buscond@microsoft.com).

What can I create a user group for?

Community Admins are folks who take care of the communities. They are site administrators and their responsibility is maintaining the community site.

Community Admins are not product experts and do not answer product questions. If you have a product question, please ask it in the proper forum.

Please do not message Community Admins with product questions.

Changing Your Community Language Preferences

In this support article, we cover the following topics:

Changing your language preferences to another language

Switching back to the default language, English

By the default, buttons and menu options in the community are displayed in English. If you would like to use the community in a language other than English, you need to follow the instructions below. Please note that you can only change your preferences to a language that is currently available. The language that you want to use might not be available at this time. Please don't change your language preferences to a language that you don't speak, just to try it out, as you might have trouble navigating the options to switch it back to the default, English.

Changing your language preferences to another language

Click on your avatar image on the top right. This will bring up a dropdown menu.

Click on "My settings".

3. Click on the Preferences tab.

4. Click on the dropdown menu to the right of Language.

5. Select a language from the ones available.

6. Click the Save button at the bottom.

7. You should now see menu options and buttons in the language that you selected.

Switching back to the default language, English

The steps are the same for switching back to English, only that now all the options will show in the non-default language that you selected. The screenshots below show a switch from Spanish back to English.

Navigation path: Your Profile -> My settings -> Preferences -> Dropdown for language -> Select the language of your choice from the ones available

Detailed steps:

Go to My settings on your profile.

2. Select Preferences.

3. Change your preferred language to the default (English) in the dropdown.

4. Click the Save button at the bottom.

All buttons and menus in the community should show in English again.

When looking at the individual community boards, you may have noticed certain icons, mostly on the right side...

Gallery Terms of Service

MICROSOFT FABRIC SHOWCASE GALLERY TERMS OF SERVICE

DATED: May 2, 2023

These Terms of Service are a contract between you and Microsoft Corporation (“Microsoft”). These terms modify the Microsoft Terms of Use for your access and use of Showcases linking to this document, including any software, services, catalogues, data, sites, information, materials, content and updates made available to you through the same Showcase gallery (the “Gallery”) (collectively, “Services”). By using the Gallery or any Service, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, you may not use the Gallery or any Service.

Showcase Gallery

The Gallery enables you to obtain algorithms, formulas, sample files, and datasets (“Showcases”) for use with the Microsoft product or service for which the Showcase is designed. Each Showcase is distributed and licensed to you by the publisher whose name is indicated in the listing for the Showcase, not by Microsoft (unless Microsoft is listed as the publisher). Information about the Showcase, including information that appears in the listing, also originates from the publisher, and Microsoft is not responsible for its accuracy.

Your use of a Showcase is subject to the terms set forth in Exhibit A, unless the Showcase is presented with different terms. No right or license to any intellectual property of Microsoft or any of its affiliates is granted with respect to any Showcases. You are responsible for identifying, understanding and complying with the relevant legal terms for any Showcase you use.

Microsoft does not guarantee, endorse or assume any liability for the Showcases or information about the Showcases, and it does not provide any support for the Showcases.

If you view and use a Showcase, your contact information and details about the transaction may be visible to others.

       Submitting Showcases
a. The Gallery enables you to submit a Showcase for others to use and to submit information to accompany the Showcase (which may include, for example, information about you, information about the contents of the Showcase, a link to your legal terms, and a graphic image file). If you submit anything to the Gallery (collectively, your “submission”), it is subject to these Terms of Service. You grant Microsoft the right to host, copy, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute the information in association with the Showcase you submit (for example, on the Gallery itself) and to modify the information to correct any errors and to conform to format requirements or other policies.
b. You, not Microsoft, are licensing to the user the right to use the Showcase. You agree to license the Showcase to users under the terms set forth in Exhibit A unless you expressly state otherwise and present the user with different terms.
c. Only these Terms of Service, and not any legal terms you provide, apply to Microsoft’s inclusion of your submission in the Gallery.
d. Microsoft is not obligated to accept, post or maintain what you submit, and may remove a submission and any part of it at any time in its sole discretion. You may choose later to unpublish your submission after its publication to the Gallery. If you do so, you understand and accept that availability on Microsoft caches might not cease immediately, copies may persist in locations not in the control of Microsoft (such as

Microsoft Fabric user dashboards and reports and other web sites that consume a data feed from the Gallery), and Microsoft may retain copies of your submission.
e. You represent and warrant that your submission (a) does not violate the rights of any third party, including intellectual property rights, (b) complies with any license or other legal terms applicable to any component or code included in it, (c) does not contain any profane, defamatory, obscene, or unlawful content, (d) complies with all applicable laws and regulations and fulfills all applicable regulatory and licensing requirements including, but not limited to laws, regulations and regulatory requirements with respect to the collection, use or disclosure of any user data, including providing notice and obtaining consent for collection, use or disclosure of user data and (e) does not contain any viruses, Trojan horses, worms, time bombs, cancelbots, or software code that is intended, designed or likely to interfere with the operation of another’s computer or property, to significantly harm the user, or to operate in a manner prohibited by law.
f. No compensation will be paid for your submission, and you may not seek (whether through the legal terms you submit or otherwise) to impose any charge on users for use of your submission they obtain through the Gallery. This does not preclude you from seeking to impose a charge for what users obtain from you outside the Gallery.
g. You are responsible for providing privacy statements that describe your privacy practices with respect to any customer data collected by your Showcase.

   Acceptable use

You may not interfere or attempt to interfere in any manner with the functionality or proper performance of the Gallery or the Services. You may not access or use the Gallery or the Services for any unlawful, harmful or deceptive purpose or in any way that is illegal or promotes illegal activities. Without limitation, you may not access or use them in any manner that (a) is discriminatory based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, or age, (b) is defamatory, offensive, malicious or harmful to any person or entity, (c) would violate local, state, federal or other applicable privacy regulations, (d) is intended, designed or likely to damage, disable, overburden, or impair or to gain unauthorized access to the Services or any server or network of Microsoft or to other accounts, computer systems or networks connected to them, or (e) would use any information obtained through them for spamming, unsolicited sales or any advertising, or marketing. You may not frame, mirror, or incorporate the Gallery user interface in part or in whole within your own online environment.

Privacy practices

See Privacy & Cookies for information relating to the collection and use of information and how this web site uses cookies. Showcases published by Microsoft are subject to Microsoft’s privacy, data location and data retention policies as stated in its Privacy Policy.

Notice and procedure for making claims of copyright infringement

This web site may employ javascript or other code that our server sends to execute on your computer’s web browser. You may use such code only for the purpose of interacting with this web site. These Terms of Service apply to your use of such code, not any license terms embedded in it.

This web site may include software that enables you to obtain software applications from other sources. Those applications are offered and distributed by third parties under their own license terms. Microsoft is not developing, distributing or licensing those applications to you, but instead, as a convenience, enables you to use this web site or software provided herein to obtain those applications directly from the application providers. By using the web site and such software, you acknowledge and agree that you are obtaining the applications directly from the third party providers and under separate license terms, and that it is your responsibility to locate, understand and comply with those license terms. Microsoft grants you no license rights for third-party software or applications that are obtained using this web site or any software provided to you.

NO WARRANTY

The Gallery and all the Services are provided "as-is," "with all faults" and "as available." On behalf of itself and its suppliers, licensors, service providers, vendors, resellers and affiliates (collectively, the "Microsoft Parties"), Microsoft disclaims any and all warranties, guarantees and conditions of purchase for the Gallery and the Services, including any implied warranties including those of merchantability, title, fitness for a particular purpose, workmanlike effort and non-infringement.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MICROSOFT PARTIES BE LIABLE UNDER ANY THEORY OF LIABILITY (WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE) FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES OF ANY KIND (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO DAMAGES FOR LOST PROFITS, LOSS OF DATA OR OTHER INFORMATION, USE, GOODWILL) ARISING OUT OF, BASED ON, OR RESULTING FROM YOUR USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE GALLERY OR THE SERVICES. WITHOUT LIMITING THE ABOVE, MICROSOFT PARTIES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES RESULTING FROM (A) COST OF PROCURING SUBSTITUTE GOODS, DATA, SOFTWARE PROGRAMS, CONTENT OR SERVICES; (B) UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO OR USE OF YOUR ACCOUNTS; (C) ANY ALTERATION, CORRUPTION, DELETION, DAMAGE OR LOSS OF ANYTHING USED IN CONNECTION WITH THE GALLERY OR THE SERVICES; (D) FAILURE TO PROVIDE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE INFORMATION WITH RESPECT TO THE GALLERY OR THE SERVICES; (E) ANY VIRUSES OR OTHER DISABLING FEATURES THAT AFFECT YOUR ONLINE ACCESS TO OR USE OF THE GALLERY OR THE SERVICES; (F) INCOMPATIBILITIES BETWEEN THE GALLERY OR THE SERVICES AND OTHER SERVICES, SOFTWARE OR HARDWARE; (G) ANY THIRD-PARTY CONDUCT OR TRANSMISSIONS OR DATA. THESE LIMITATIONS ON LIABILITY APPLY EVEN TO LOSSES OF WHICH MICROSOFT PARTIES HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY. SUCH LOSSES WILL NOT CONSTITUTE A FAILURE OF THIS AGREEMENT’S ESSENTIAL PURPOSE.

Duty to defend

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Microsoft and Microsoft’s affiliates, as applicable, from and against (including by paying any associated costs, losses, damages, or expenses and attorneys’ fees) any and all third-party claims alleging that your Showcase infringes any proprietary or personal right of a third party or arising from any dispute between you and a third party relating to your Showcase.

Microsoft will (a) notify you promptly in writing of the claim, provided that Microsoft’s failure to notify you will not relieve you of any liability except to the extent that such failure materially prejudices your legal rights; and (b) at your reasonable request, provide you with reasonable assistance in defending the claim. You agree to reimburse Microsoft or Microsoft’s affiliates, as applicable, for any reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred in providing such assistance. You may not make any settlement or compromise of a claim or admit or stipulate any fault or liability on the part of Microsoft or Microsoft’s affiliates with respect to any claim covered by this section without Microsoft’s express, prior written consent.

Reservation of rights

Microsoft reserves all rights not expressly granted in these Terms of Service. No additional rights (including implied licenses, rights or covenants) are granted by implication, estoppel or otherwise.

Choice of law and location for resolving disputes

The law of Washington State, U.S.A., governs the interpretation of these Terms of Service and applies to claims relating to them, regardless of conflict of laws principles. You and we irrevocably consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the state or federal courts in King County, Washington, U.S.A., for all disputes arising out of or relating to the Gallery or these Terms of Service.

Interpreting these Terms of Service

If a court holds that we cannot enforce a part of these Terms of Service as written, then you and we agree that the court will replace that part with terms that most closely reflect our intention, and the rest of these Terms of Service will not change. These Terms of Service form the entire agreement regarding your use of the Gallery and the Services and supersede any prior agreements or statements (whether oral or written) regarding such use.

Updates to Terms of Service

We may change these Terms of Service at any time, with or without prior notice to you. Changes will apply to your use of the Gallery and the Services starting from when the changes are made. If you do not agree with any changes, you may not continue to use the Gallery.

Exhibit A – Standard Showcase License Terms

MICROSOFT FABRIC SHOWCASE GALLERY – STANDARD SHOWCASE LICENSE TERMS

These license terms are an agreement between you and the Showcase publisher. Please read them. They apply to the Showcase you download from the Showcase Gallery, including any updates or supplements for the Showcase (the “Showcase”), unless the Showcase comes with separate terms, in which case those terms apply.

BY DOWNLOADING OR USING THE SHOWCASE, OR ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY OF THESE, YOU ACCEPT THESE TERMS. IF YOU DO NOT ACCEPT THEM, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO AND MUST NOT DOWNLOAD OR USE THE SHOWCASE.

The Showcase publisher means the entity licensing the Showcase to you, as identified in the Showcase Gallery.

If you comply with these license terms, you have the rights below.

INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. You may install and use any number of copies of the Showcase for use with a product or service that supports the Microsoft product or service for which the Showcase was designed.

THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE. This software may enable you to obtain software applications from other sources. Those applications are offered and distributed by third parties under their own license terms. The Showcase publisher is not developing, distributing or licensing those applications to you, but instead, as a convenience, enables you to use this software to obtain those applications directly from the application providers. By using the software, you acknowledge and agree that you are obtaining the applications directly from the third party providers and under separate license terms, and that it is your responsibility to locate, understand and comply with those license terms. The Showcase publisher grants you no license rights for third-party software or applications that is obtained using this software.

DISTRIBUTABLE CODE
a. Distributable Code. The software contains code that you are permitted to copy, modify, and distribute in source and object code form within programs you develop if you comply with the terms below (“Distributable Code”).
b. Distribution Requirements. For any Distributable Code you distribute, you must

add significant primary functionality to it in your programs;

require distributors and external end users to agree to terms that protect it at least as much as this agreement; and

indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Showcase publisher from any claims, including attorneys’ fees, related to the distribution or use of your programs.
c. Distribution Restrictions. You may not

use Showcase publisher’s trademarks in your programs’ names or branding in a way that suggests your programs come from or are endorsed by Showcase publisher;

include Distributable Code in malicious, deceptive or unlawful programs; or

modify or distribute the source code of any Distributable Code so that any part of it becomes subject to an Excluded License. An Excluded License is one that requires, as a condition of use, modification or distribution, that

the code be disclosed or distributed in source code form; or

others have the right to modify it.

INTERNET-BASED SERVICES.
a. Consent for Internet-Based or Wireless Services. The Showcase connects to computer systems over the Internet, which may include via a wireless network. Using the Showcase operates as your consent to the transmission of standard device information (including but not limited to technical information about your device, system and Showcase software, and peripherals) for internet-based or wireless services.
b. Misuse of Internet-based Services. You may not use any Internet-based service in any way that could harm it or impair anyone else’s use of it or the wireless network. You may not use the service to try to gain unauthorized access to any service, data, account or network by any means.

SCOPE OF LICENSE. The Showcase is licensed, not sold. This agreement only gives you some rights to use the Showcase. Showcase publisher reserves all other rights. Unless applicable law gives you more rights despite this limitation, you may use the Showcase only as expressly permitted in this agreement. You may not

work around any technical limitations in the Showcase;

reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Showcase, except and only to the extent that applicable law expressly permits, despite this limitation;

make more copies of the Showcase than specified in this agreement or allowed by applicable law, despite this limitation; or

publish or otherwise make the Showcase available for others to copy.

DOCUMENTATION. If documentation is provided with the Showcase, you may copy and use the documentation for personal reference purposes.

TECHNOLOGY AND EXPORT RESTRICTIONS. The Showcase may be subject to United States or international technology control or export laws and regulations. You must comply with all domestic and international export laws and regulations that apply to the technology used or supported by the Showcase. These laws include restrictions on destinations, end users and end use. For information on Microsoft branded products, see www.microsoft.com/exporting.

SUPPORT SERVICES. If Microsoft is the Showcase publisher, it is not responsible for providing support services for the Showcase. Contact the Showcase publisher to determine what support services are available.

ENTIRE AGREEMENT. This agreement, any applicable Showcase publisher privacy policy, and the terms for supplements and updates are the entire agreement between you and Showcase publisher for the Showcase. If Microsoft is the Showcase publisher, this agreement does not change the terms of your relationship with Microsoft with regard to your preexisting Microsoft customer agreements, including the Showcase Gallery.

APPLICABLE LAW.
a. United States. If you acquired the Showcase in the United States, Washington State law governs the interpretation of this agreement and applies to claims for breach of it, regardless of conflict of laws principles. The laws of the state where you live govern all other claims, including claims under state consumer protection laws, unfair competition laws, and in tort.
b. Outside the United States. If you acquired the Showcase in any other country, the laws of that country apply.

LEGAL EFFECT. This agreement describes certain legal rights. You may have other rights under the laws of your state or country. This agreement does not change your rights under the laws of your state or country if the laws of your state or country do not permit it to do so.

DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, (A) THE SHOWCASE IS LICENSED "AS-IS," "WITH ALL FAULTS," AND "AS AVAILABLE" AND YOU BEAR ALL RISK OF USING IT; (B) THE SHOWCASE PUBLISHER, ON BEHALF OF ITSELF, MICROSOFT (IF MICROSOFT IS NOT THE SHOWCASE PUBLISHER), AND EACH OF OUR RESPECTIVE AFFILIATES, VENDORS, AGENTS AND SUPPLIERS, GIVES NO EXPRESS WARRANTIES, GUARANTEES, OR CONDITIONS IN RELATION TO THE SHOWCASE; (C) YOU MAY HAVE ADDITIONAL CONSUMER RIGHTS UNDER YOUR LOCAL LAWS THAT THIS AGREEMENT CANNOT CHANGE; AND (D) SHOWCASE PUBLISHER AND MICROSOFT EXCLUDE ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS, INCLUDING THOSE OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

LIMITATION ON AND EXCLUSION OF REMEDIES AND DAMAGES. TO THE EXTENT NOT PROHIBITED BY LAW, YOU CAN RECOVER FROM THE SHOWCASE PUBLISHER ONLY DIRECT DAMAGES UP TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SHOWCASE OR $1.00, WHICHEVER IS GREATER. YOU WILL NOT, AND WAIVE ANY RIGHT TO, SEEK TO RECOVER ANY OTHER DAMAGES, INCLUDING CONSEQUENTIAL, LOST PROFITS, SPECIAL, INDIRECT OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES FROM THE SHOWCASE PUBLISHER.

This limitation applies to

anything related to the Showcase or services made available through the Showcase; and

claims for breach of contract, breach of warranty, guarantee or condition, strict liability, negligence, or other tort to the extent permitted by applicable law.

It also applies even if

repair, replacement or a refund for the Showcase does not fully compensate you for any losses; or

Showcase publisher knew or should have known about the possibility of the damages.

Using the Issues (Ideas) Board

You have probably been wondering why the “Issues” board says “Ideas” all over it. We apologize for any confusion this has may have caused.

The reason has to do with certain types of message boards and their functionality. The Power BI Community is built on the Khoros Platform. Within that platform, there are different message board templates. The one we found best for reporting and tracking issues that you report was the “Ideas” board template. It has several features that lend themselves very well to reporting issues.

1. Voting: The voting button allows users to give kudos to a post.

2. Add tags: The tagging feature allows users to assign “labels” to posts so that other users can search on those labels to find similar posts.

3. The Completed Ideas widget: Located in the righthand rail of the page, this widget lists issues that have been resolved or “Delivered.”

4. Delivered issues are marked like this:

We hope that clears up any confusion.

What are community ranks?

In this support article, we cover the following topics:

What are community ranks?

Where can I see someone's rank?

List of Activity Ranks

What are community ranks?

Ranks are a great way for you to see a community member's role and activity and to celebrate your own accomplishments. They show if someone has been very active and helpful in the community, such as a Super User. Some ranks, especially the ones related to managing the community, come with special permissions. Ranks also recognize the contributions and impact of a community member. As you increase your contribution activity, for example creating new topics or providing solutions, your rank can increase. Every time you earn a new rank, you will receive an email notification. Once you have gained a new rank, an icon and rank name will be displayed right next to your username. Fun fact: Microsoft uses community ranks to keep an eye out for some of its most active and passionate community members. — So, make sure to shine with valuable content, and you may be recognized for your contributions!

Where can I see someone's rank?

You can find a member’s rank in a variety of ways:

1. You can see someone's rank to the left of their name when you are looking at one of their posts.

2. You can click under a member’s name when you are looking at their profile. To navigate to the user profile, click on a username. This takes you to the profile page.

When you look at the original author and the most recent author in a thread, you can also see the rank icon right next to the user name.

List of Activity Ranks

When you're new to the community, you start out as a New Member, then you become a Regular Visitor, and then a Frequent Visitor. Afterwards, you are moving on to a categorized system.

Ranks are categorized into groups: Kudo Ranks, Post Ranks, Solution Ranks and Combo ranks. This provides the greatest opportunity for you to traverse the ranks according to your activity! The top Kudo, Post, and Solution ranks have more unique names, as do all Combo ranks.

Ranks are categorized based on Kudos (teal icons), Posts (purple icons) and Solutions (green icons). There are also Combo ranks that focus on a combination of kudos, solutions, and posts. These icons are orange. You'll always earn the highest rank for any of the focus areas, regardless of in which category you have already earned a rank, and you can move between categories. For example, you could start out with a Kudo "Advocate" rank, then move to a Solutions "Resolver" or Posts "Helper" rank, then back to a Kudo rank. This means that the colored bar amount can decrease, if you earned a rank in a different category, even though you are still progressing upwards. The bars indicate progression within a rank category, not the rank structure as a whole, hence the potential decrease in bars when climbing within the larger rank structure. This is what the bar progression looks like in order (follow the arrow, starting at the star):

As you can see, the bars change colors, going with the category changes, and the bars can go down when moving upwards, if you move up to another category. Again: You are still progressing upwards!
As the name suggests, requirements for Combo ranks are even more complex than the other ranks and involve activity in all categories. The exact formulas and criteria remain our little secret to keep things exciting.

Kudos and the Top Kudoed Authors widget

In this support article, we cover the following topics:

What are kudos?

What's the difference between kudos and accepted solutions?

The top kudoed authors widget

What are kudos?

Kudos are similar to "Liking" a post on Facebook. Kudos are a quick thumbs-up you can give to your fellow community members to show appreciation for a discussion comment, such as a helpful solution. By giving kudos to a message, you promote good content and its creator.

What's the difference between kudos and accepted solutions?

Knowing when to use Kudos and when to use Accepted Solutions is extremely important. Kudos are a good way of recognizing a useful post whereas Accepted Solutions should be used for posts that solved your problem. Threads that contain a message that have been accepted as a solution are prioritized on search results and always appear on top. This makes it easier for you to find a solution to your problem.
