I have a large JSON dataset that I need to migrate into a SQL database for further analysis and reporting. The JSON contains nested objects and multiple records, so manually creating SQL statements is becoming time-consuming. I’m looking for a reliable way to convert JSON to SQL while keeping the data organized and minimizing manual work. I came across the SysTools JSON Converter, which supports JSON to SQL conversion and seems useful for handling such requirements.

A few things I’m particularly looking for:

Support for large JSON files and bulk conversion
Ability to handle nested JSON data

SQL databases in Fabric run as interactive rather than background workloads

One major challenge I've run into with SQL databases in Fabric is that they run as interactive rather than background workloads. Because the database has to stay online, it continuously consumes CUs, which puts real pressure on shared capacity where pipelines, notebooks, and Power BI are competing for the same resources.

Today the only isolation option is moving the SQL database into its own workspace on a dedicated capacity, which adds management overhead and cross-workspace friction. It would be great to see item-level capacity assignment or workload isolation for SQL databases within a capacity — or a background/idle classification so an always-on database isn't billed like an active interactive workload.

Is anything like this on the roadmap?

Product: SQL database in Fabric (NOT Azure SQL Database, NOT Fabric Warehouse)

In the query editor of a SQL database in Fabric item, saved queries do
not appear under Explorer > Queries > My queries.

The queries ARE being saved. Evidence:
- New query names keep incrementing (currently at "SQL query 10")
- Saving with an existing query name returns a duplicate name error

So this is a display/listing issue, not a save failure.

Already ruled out:
- Cache / cookies / extensions: reproduced in an InPrivate window
- Account or profile mismatch: same work account throughout,
never switched browser profiles
- Environment-wide problem: in the SAME workspace, the SQL analytics
endpoint of a lakehouse lists its saved queries under "My queries"
correctly. Only the SQL database in Fabric item is affected.

Docs for the SQL database in Fabric query editor state that queries are
automatically saved every few seconds, with a "saving" indicator in the
query tab. The save behavior matches the docs - only the listing is missing.

I checked Known Issues (Databases category) and found no matching entry.

Cosmos DB in Fabric (native): Replication doesn't restart after capacity pause

Hi team,

Using native Cosmos DB in Fabric (built-in auto-mirror, not the Azure mirrored connector). After a capacity pause/resume, new Cosmos writes don't appear in OneLake / Lakehouse.

Observing:
- Replication monitor shows Status "Running", but "Documents replicated" and "Last completed" seem frozen at pre-pause values.
- Fresh writes succeed in Cosmos but mirrored count doesn't move.
- A brand-new Cosmos DB item mirrors fine, so the service works; just unsure how to recover an existing one.

Tried: waiting, new inserts, refreshing, recreating the shortcut.

Would appreciate guidance on:
1. Is a manual step expected after capacity resume for native Cosmos DB? (I don't see a "Resume replication" control.)
2. Recommended way to recover mirroring without recreating the container?

Training course recommendation on learning Natural Language to SQL within SQL Server?

Hi (I hope this is a suitable forum),
We currently get our insights through Power BI (PBI) accessing data within SQL Server. Producing thsese reports/insights is labour intensive. With the introduction of AI, I've been tasked to find our if we are able to write questions (in Natural Language) of our data (held within SQL Server) and have the answers returned. If this is possible then it may negate the need for PBI reports to be generated to achieve the same insights.
I have no understanding of AI at present. My gut is telling me the data model will have to be specific and very descriptive, and then we'd have to rely on customers (end-users) asking their questions in a regimented way - all challenges.
I've been reading various online articles on the subject but each article, it seems, recommends different software and I'm gaining no momentum. Therefore, I am here to ask if you can advise on any training courses that would take me from a complete novice to someone who can, either, get the aim working or is equipped to advise it wouldn't work with our setup.
We are a Microsoft (MS) house (SQL Server, Dynamics, etc...) and all in Azure. Any training material should follow using MS technologies otherwise the I.T. dept may put a blocker on it.

Using Date Range in SQL Statement to ODBC Data Source

What SQL statement should I use to return data from table F4111 in a date range of current date to previous year? Creation date column ILCRDJ in table F4111 holds a date entry that is a text string (ie: "06/14/26"). I am using an ODBC server and trying to use SQL statement to return by parameter. Here is an attempt and the error message received.

WHERE ILCRDJ >= {fn CURDATE()-365}

Power Apps integration with Fabric

Should one map the backend of Power Apps to a Fabric SQL database?

The Power apps is heavily used by more than 50 users with ~100-150 data entries per hour.

And the fabric capacity is a shared one meaning there are other data ingestions job and power bi reports being utilized via the same capacity.

So is it ideal to have a heavy transactional system relying on a shared Fabric capacity?

Also based on the MSFT doc as well, it is not recommened.

Fabric SQL DB critical CI/CD sync issue

I have a SQL DB inside a fabric workspace and I am setting it up for CI/CD using GitHub. But any sync made via the repository fail when syncing to the workspace.

Here are the steps I do:

The SQL DB was created within the fabric workspace and the SQL DB works fine on fabric service
SQL DB is commited to my repo via the worksapce source control pane
I make a simple change to a SQL query via git in the repository
I update the workspace items based on the repository changes
I get this error: SQL Project build failed. The model version 'SqlDbFabric' is not supported. The model version 'SqlDbFabric' is not supported.

And even if I don't make any changes to the repo I get the error:

The SQL DB was created within the fabric workspace and the SQL DB works fine on fabric service
SQL DB is commited to my repo via the worksapce source control pane
I create a new blank workspace in fabric
I sync the workspace with the same branch from my repo that I commited in step 2, basically getting the items from the repo to the workspace
I get this error: SQL Project build failed. The model version 'SqlDbFabric' is not supported. The model version 'SqlDbFabric' is not supported.

Is fabric not cabaple of rebuilding the SQL DB from its own created files? Because the documentation says otherwise.

Here is the .sqlproj code autogenerated by fabric:

Intermittent TCP Provider: Error code 0x68 (08S01) during bulk INSERT full loads into Fabric SQL DB

Hi Fabric community

We are experiencing intermittent connection failures when performing full data loads using bulk INSERT statements into a SQL Database in Microsoft Fabric.
The error typically occurs during COMMIT, after a large bulk insert has been running successfully for some time.

Error message

DBMS error [TCP Provider: Error code 0x68. Communication link failure].
DBMS error number [104].
SQL State [08S01].
DBMS version [12.00.9114].
Driver [Microsoft][ODBC Driver 18 for SQL Server].
Last query [commit].

Scenario

Target: SQL Database in Microsoft Fabric
Load type: Full load
Method: Bulk INSERT / INSERT BULK statements
Volume: Millions of rows per table
Driver: ODBC Driver 18 for SQL Server

The bulk insert runs for a while and then fails sporadically, usually:

towards the end of a large transaction
at COMMIT time
without a deterministic pattern or reproducible table-specific issue

A simple retry often succeeds but not always, which suggests a transient connectivity issue rather than a data or schema problem.

Questions

We would like to understand whether this can be mitigated on the Fabric SQL Database side, not only in the application:

Are there any Fabric SQL or database-level settings to:
- increase connection or transaction timeouts?
- extend allowed execution time for long-running bulk operations?
Are there any limits or behaviors specific to Fabric SQL that could cause connections to be dropped during large bulk INSERT + COMMIT operations?
Is TCP Provider: Error code 0x68 (SQLState 08S01) considered a known transient condition when running heavy bulk loads in Fabric SQL (e.g. due to gateway, proxy, or capacity constraints)?

Goal

The goal is to make large one-time full loads via bulk INSERT stable and predictable in Fabric SQL, without relying purely on retries after failed commits.

Any guidance from Microsoft or others running large-scale bulk ingestion into Fabric SQL would be very helpful.

Different behaviour between SQL database and SQL Analytics endpoint

Hi,

I've noticed that there are diffencies between SQL database view and SQL Analytics endpoint view in the explorer.

F.e. when I create a table with a datetime column I can do it successfully in the SQL database view while in the SQL Analytics endpoint view I need to use a datetime2 column.

Moreover, it could occur that a dropped table in the SQL database view remains in the SQL Analytics endpoint view.

The SQL Analytics endpoint view should correspond to SQL database view.

Foreign keys not visible in database explorer

when I create a relationship between two tables I've noticed that the related foreign key isn't visible in the database explorer, while for the primary keys at least it is reported the "pk" acronym: this is it a limitation or a regular behaviour?

SQL DB Error with geometry::STGeomFromText

Has anyone else run into an error using geometric functions in SQL Database in Fabric? Are thses functions not yet available in Fabric SQL DB? The STGeomFromText (geometry Data Type) article indicates the function should be available (the Applies to tag includes SQL Database in Microsoft Fabric).

The following statement (from the linked article) runs in Fabric Warehouse without error, but when run in SQL DB in Fabric, it gives the error below.

Statement:

select geometry::STGeomFromText('LINESTRING (100 100, 20 180, 180 180)', 0)

Error:

Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Types, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)

Generic error during SQL database creation

in a Fabric workspace with a F32 capacity (in North Europe region) I'm trying to create a SQL database for the first time, but I've only a generic error that says "A problem is occured". This message doesn't help to understand the real issue.

I'm an admin for the workspace.
