why did my gateway go off line?

hi, i received an error yesterday saying my gateway was offline.  why would that happen, ie why would a gateway go offline?  i recycled it on the manage settings screen after re entering creds and things seem fine now.  prior i went into task manager and verified that it was still running in the background and it was.

yes, too late for that.  the only error i had taken a snapshot of before muddling thru the steps it took to get it back online was the one resulting from trying to run the report over a gateway that was already down.  still wondering what brings these things down.  is it predictable?  could it be related to the fact that the pc on which its installed was shut down at least once since it was used last?

General guidance is to use multiple on-premise cloud VMs with Standard/Enterprise gateway arranged in a cluster. Not a single Personal gateway on a physical PC.

I don't see a "Gateway offline" error message?
