update the data "from the cloud (OneDrive) to the cloud (Power BI Service)"

There is the following architecture:

  • Data in Power BI is uploaded from OneDrive
  • The update is configured in Power BI Service according to the schedule
  • Power BI license is used - pro and On-premises data gateway (personal mode)
  • Microsoft recommends: You shouldn't install a gateway on a computer, such a laptop, that may be turned off, asleep, or not connected to the Internet because the gateway can't run under any of those circumstances.

Thus, to update the data "from the cloud (OneDrive) to the cloud (Power BI Service)" requires a computer with data gateway (personal mode) installed on it, which must be enabled at the time of the planned update.

Maybe there is some other way to make the update "from cloud to cloud" for which there is no need for such a "member" as the computer included at the time of the update?

Can you share what options there are without using such a “member”?

Thank.

  • Hi Anonymous ,

Keeping your files on OneDrive, or SharePoint Online, and connecting to them from Power BI. Gateway is not required here. You can set scedule refresh of the dataset without gateway in this scenario. For more details, please check the online document.
