unable to overwrite model due to size limits

Hi,

I just recieved an error in my last refresh of this data model hosted on a pro workspace.

To solve the problem i modified the model on my desktop app and tried to publish again to overwrite the previous big model but it still gives me the same error.

I tried publishing to the same workspace with a different name and it published and refreshed without any issues, but i am still unable to overwrite the old model with this new updated version.
how can i proceed? there are many other reports using it as a source so i'm not sure if deleting and updating again would cause issues in that regard.

thanks

  • Hi Arufonsu_25 Since when you republished and still there are error and you lready published the model with different name you could point it this new model for the other reports you could do this by using REST Api to point to the new model i guess

I suppose so, the problem is that there are more than 100 reports pointing to it, so if there was a way to do it without rerouting every report it would be better

Arufonsu_25 Is the new model size under 1gb maybe that might also be the issue that the model size is still to large for the workspace

If you use SQL server management studio and have premium (Xmas endpoint), and have xmla read\write enabled on tenant settings you are able to connect to the model. You can connect to the model/tables/partitions are run a clearValues refresh to dump the data.

Once it is empty you should be able to start working with again.

If you don't have xmla you can try the enhanced refresh API

You will still have to resolved the model size issue either by filtering data, optimizing the model or moving it to a capacity that supports its size
