security model for report-level or page-level access
I have a security scenario that I need a solution for. First, a word about the uniqueness of my PBI environment. One, since PBI is new to my organization, I don't want to confuse users with multiple page navigation methods (e.g., the normal page tab name on the left side of the report, as well as dynamic buttons). Two, all consumer experience must be in apps; it can't be in workspaces.
My security scenario is to prevent certain users from being able to view certain pages within a report. Even though the May 2020 Desktop update allows for this security scenario, it won't work for my particular environment since it requires dynamic buttons. (See this link for reference: https://www.fourmoo.com/2020/05/26/did-you-know-you-can-now-selectively-show-report-pages-for-specific-users-in-power-bi/). And, moving the desired pages into a separate report in the same workspace and granting access to that report directly in the workspace is not allowed (as it violates our report consumption policy). (This is a result of security not being configurable per report in an app, i.e., app security is "all or nothing".)
This leaves me with moving the desired pages into a separate report and in a separate app / workspace. However, this will lead to app / workspace proliferation. Is there a solution that achieves all of my requirements which avoids this proliferation?
- Hi there,
As far as I know there is currently no other workaround that I am aware of!
