"orphaned" group workspace - can't delete or access

I have a Group type workspace that I'm unable to access, change, or delete.

I'm the PBI Service Admin.

Any API or cmdlet I use to try and access either gets an "access denied" or a "group not found" error.

Attempt to upgrade the group to a v2 workspace has failed, so I'm unable to use most of the "AsAdmin" APIs to insert myself as admin.

The group does not exist in AAD, so I can't add myself there either to see the workspace.

Any suggestions?

What came of this ticket? I have similar issues. Had Orphaned workspaces, assigned myself as Admin... can't find them in the list of workspaces I have access to, and can't delete them from the Admin Portal. Very frustrating

Hi @Anonymous

What I would do is to ask the person who is the owner to add you as an Admin, that might be easiest?

That's just the thing, I'm unable to find any owners of the group. Since it is the old type of workspace, it should be tied to an active directory group but that group does not exist.

Hi @Anonymous

I am not sure then I would log a support call!

Hi @Anonymous

What happens if you try and restore this from the Admin Portal as shown below?

I do not have a Restore option unfortunately.

The status is currently Active.

Click on Upgrade

Once the upgrade will be finished, you will get an option "Access"

Click on that and add yourself as Admin to the workspace, then you are good to go.
