I have a Semantic Model published to a workspace that when refreshed either in the service or desktop .pbix gives me this error: "The field 'AssignmentNumber' already exists in the record." The desktop version prefaces the error with Expression.Error.
Each time you refresh the model the table reference for the error changes. There have been no changes to the PBI file. All the source tables in the model are from 2 Dataflows. The Dataflows refresh on schedule without error. I've reviewed each of the source tables in the Dataflows used and none have duplicate column names within the respective table.
I'm at a loss, any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Hi @noircrk ,
This could be due to either of below 2 reason:
- There could be a logic in your power query or somewhere where it is duplicating the column name
- Or AssignmentNumber is in the list of reserved word in Power BI
Workaround would be to try renaming your original AssignmentNumber.
Appreciate your kudo, if my post has helped you in someway.
Thanks,
Pallavi
Thank you for your insight. However, the logic in power query hasn't changed and AssignmentNumber has been used before in other models and works correctly.
Hi @noircrk ,
Could you please check in PBI desktop and let us know where exactly in the power query step you are getting error. Is it at the append step?
Thanks,
Pallavi
It triggers on a Sorting step. I've changed the column name in the Source step in the Dataflow. The error updates to the new column name.
