"Next" button greyed out when trying to add SQL tables to dataflow

I have a user who is trying to add tables to a dataflow. He has access to the gateway and can select it, but the Next button is greyed out. I have created new gateway connections to the exact data source (SQL server + database) and he can select them from the dropdown list, but still the next button is greyed out.

Has anyone seen this before?

Thank you guys - we went through and triple checked everything but no change. We re-created the dataflow instead and its working fine. Not sure what the root cause was.

Hi @kieranb123

Based on your screenshot, the “Next” button is likely greyed out due to a validation issue in the Server or Database fields even if they look filled in.

This can happen if:

  • There are trailing spaces or invisible characters

  • The Server/DB names don’t exactly match the gateway config (including case or instance name)

  • Credentials haven’t been validated properly (despite being selected)

  • The UI hasn’t registered your entries try clicking into each field and pressing Tab or Enter

Also check if the gateway data source supports the connection type you're using. If everything looks correct and it still fails, try:

  • Using another browser

  • Recreating the data source under Manage Gateway in the Service

Hi @kieranb123,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community.

Please try the following steps

  • Ensure server name and database match exactly with what is configured in the gateway like case sensitive, no extra spaces, etc.
  • Even though the data source is selected, missing or invalid credentials can cause an issue so check if connection credentials are configured correctly.
  • Check that the status of the gateway is online and healthy.
  • Try using in a different browser or private/incognito window.

If the issue still persists, please share a screenshot of your gateway configuration and confirm if the credentials test is successful.

If this post helps, then please consider Accepting as solution to help the other members find it more quickly, don't forget to give a "Kudos" – I’d truly appreciate it!

Thanks and regards,

Anjan Kumar Chippa
