"Couldn't load the data for this visual" error

I have this error on the Power BI Service

"Couldn't load the data for this visual" error

on Desktop works fine, as soon I upload it to the service

the problems begins.

Both both Datasets are on the same Tennet and the account is a Premium Account

Thanks

The Datasets are subsets of DB built from sources using PowerBi desktop. The desktop has many native connectors therefore no Gateway needed. Once you publish the report to service it is like you deployed the Dataset in a workspace. Now in order for these late Dataset to connect to the source it will need the Gateway. Unless the sources are stored in Cloud services like Snowflake for example Power Bi would need a Gateway installed on Premises or on your PC to be able to connect your reports to the underlined data sources.

Hope this is clear 😉

Hi @ericet ,

Since you use DirectQuery for Power BI datasets and Analysis Services (preview), please note:

Build permissions are required to view reports built using this feature when one or more datasets in the chain are in Pro workspaces. If the creator a report has left the company or their Build permissions has been revoked since they created the report, Build permissions will also be required on all datasets in the chain.

Please refer to:Using DirectQuery for datasets and Analysis Services (preview) - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

So please check the following things:

Did you get build permission for datasets?  If not, please ask the admin to add you as contributor / member / admin role in workspace, or ask admin to give you build permission in dataset permissions management.

Best regards,

Yadong Fang

Hi Eric,

Do you have a Gateway installed either on prem or in your PC to allow the connetion between your report and the source!?

All the data is in the Datasets on the Power BI Service Online in the same Tennet - Workspace.

In my case here it's a CSV on SharePoint. The SharePoint is already on the Microsoft Cloud so I can't imagine needing a Gateway for that ?
