email with 2 dots rejected

Hi Data champions,

I'm having trouble adding an external user to an audience for one of our work spaces who has an unusual email address format;

firstname.surname.role@organisation.gov.uk

It seems that the additional part '.role' is causing the problem - error message below - but I am not an expert.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to resolve this?

Thanks.

Thanks @v-kathullac and @Akash_Varuna for the suggested solution.

The situation is complicated by the fact that the email belongs to a user in an external organisation where they clearly have made the firstname.surname.role@organisation.gov.uk work for their organisation. So we cannot remove the '.role' element of the email address. Could Azure active directory see the email in the format above and remediate it to something Power BI could accept eg Firstname.surname@organisation.gov.uk?

Thanks.

Hi  @kingthumb ,Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

Thanks @Akash_Varuna   for Addressing the issue. in addition to akash points  can you also check the below mentioned points

1.Verify that the external domain (organisation.gov.uk) is allowed for external users in your Azure AD settings. Sometimes, the problem can be related to tenant-level restrictions preventing certain external email domains from being added

2.When adding external users to a Power BI workspace, Power BI typically relies on Azure Active Directory (AAD). If the email address is associated with an external domain, ensure that the domain is registered and supported for external access in Azure AD. to check this

3.Go to Azure Active Directory -> External Identities -> Check the External Collaboration Settings to ensure that external users can be added.

if none of these works Can you please raise a Microsoft support ticket for further investigation. You can create a Microsoft support ticket using the link below.
How to create a Fabric and Power BI Support ticket - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

If this helps, then please Accept it as a solution and dropping a "Kudos" so other members can find it more easily.

Hope this works for you!

Regards,

Chaithanya.

Hi @kingthumb It might be an issue with Power BI rejecting email addresses with multiple dots. Try adding the user with a simpler email format (without .role). If the user is in Azure AD, try adding them through Azure AD instead. If the issue persists, contact Microsoft Support with the error details for further assistance.
