does dataset get disabled when we try to replace from desktop? Again, it went into same state. Sometimes, replacing the pbix is failing for some reason.

Hi subbukambala,
When we try to replace datasets by republishing reports to Power BI Service, we need to note that if we already have two or more datasets in Power BI with the same name as the Power BI Desktop file, publish could fail. See: Re-publish or replace a dataset published from Power BI Desktop.
In your scenario, please connect to and upload a .PBIX file via Get Data in Power BI Service to see if the dataset is replaced and available. Also click Settings -> Datasets to see if you can manage the dataset.
If you have any quetsion, please feel free to ask.
Best Regards,
