Solved

data unable to display on table viewer

Hello,

We have encountered an issue after the scheduled refresh of a dataset. Although the refresh completes successfully on the service side, some table's data fails to appear in Power BI Desktop’s Data View or the Report Page.

However, if we download the PBIX file, then open Transform Data (Power Query), all the data is present and the refresh works correctly.

There is no gateway involved and the REST API call reports success. Given this, we suspect the issue may be a bug or special behavior on Microsoft’s service side.

Please advise.

  • The edit query menú is a preview of the data. Refreshing all queries in there will just show how it would look like after the refresh. Close & Apply will only refresh if there are modifications from the last time that is should change. If you haven't make a change, apply won't do anything. There is a refresh button in the menu for the data. That will trigger a refresh for all the tables. You can also right click on a single table and refresh it.

    I hope that make sense.

  • Hi. I'm not sure I'm following the whole case, it looks like you are saying that you want Desktop to be refreshed from the service. Power Bi Desktop is a development tool that helps works on logics and visuals. Once you have that you deploy to Service and the data flows only at Service. That's the place to read, analyze and check visuals as a production environment for the final users.

For the heads up, the power query view is a reference view, it won't show the last data after you refresh, it keeps in cache the last results from last time opened. There is a refresh view button if you want to see it up to date.

I hope that make sense. Otherwise please explain the problem in a different way.

      Thank you for your response.

The issue I’m facing is that the data appears to load completely and display correctly after using Refresh All in Transform Data, but it disappears from the report after I click Apply.

For example, in Transform Data, the table ABC shows 100 rows. After selecting Close & Apply, the table ABC in the PBIX Data View shows 0 rows.
