data gateway cluster and failed refresh: "Unable to connect to the data source undefined"

Hi !

This is getting me mad 🙂

I published a report based on 3 sql databases (or 3 different servers: Srv1 Srv2, Srv3) . I have 2 on premice datagateways running one on Srv1 and one on Srv3.

On PowerBi.com all the datasources are connected successfully. But as soon as I trigger the automatic refresh I get: Unable to connect to the data source undefined (no more details)

My only clue is this: on the second datasource, I get this warning message: This data source cannot connect to all gateway instances...

Indeed the datagateway on srv1 cannot reach srv2.

So here is my question, does all the on prem datagateway in a cluster have to access to all the data sources ?

thanks in advance

So the answer is yes ! both datagateways in the same cluster have to have access to all the same databases.
I had the firewall rules changed and the schedule refresh is working

Hi  @fsim ,

You have to bind the dataset to the selected data source on the related gateway first.

Check the reference below:

Best Regards,

Please don't do that.  Gateway VMs should be separate from other application or DB VMs.

Do you have one cluster with two members, or two separate gateways?

Fun fact:  Multiple data sources ("connections") in a dataset must all use the same cluster. A rather silly limitation.

hello @lbendlin

Thanks for your comments.

I din't have the choice for the installation of the Datagateway. I'll keep your info in mind for a future update.

It's one cluster with two members
