credentials for odbc connection to oracle database

My report connects to an oracle database via an ODBC connection on the gateway server.
this is due to security reasons, the oracle db will only allow a single firewall exception, so we chose the gateway server.

My question is regarding credentials, i have to set them in the power query data source settings in power bi desktop. I cannot set them in the dataset settings in the power bi service.

Is it possible to pass in odbc credentials via the power bi dataset settings in the power bi service?

Hi @wilson_smyth

No you need to add the source to the Gateway in the service

Thanks for the reply @aj1973

I can see this when I view the gateway connection options for the data source.

I can also see a connection in the gateway connections section called ODBC Con.
If i update the username & password in this connection, will the report use the new credentials?

The source is not ODBC, it is Oracle. You need to add Oracle in the Gateway like I showed you in the image.

The source is ODBC.
I cannot connect directly to the Oracle server as the vendor wont open the firewall to the IP ranges.

Instead I created an ODBC connection to the oracle from a VM wtih a static IP, and the Vendor opened the firewall for this single IP.

I can see this connection in the connections list and connect to the data source.
Its not ideal, but it is necessary.
