copy report in an app doenst work / current bug?

Hello,

when I create a new workspace, publish a new report and create an app in Power BI Service my colleages cant copy the report in their own workspace although i check at the field that they can copy the report. Normally nothing special?!

A current bug?

Many thanks!

I also have a lot of problems with the strange publishing and permissions system in Power BI.
Why is it possible to copy reports if they are not displayed in the apps because some permission is missing which should be done by the app?
So do I have to release all datasets for everyone so that I can then restrict them again in the reports in Apps for a certain group of people?
Can someone post a clear instruction how to proceed and not just write why it doesn't work?

Best regards
Volker

Hi,

When you make an app from your workspace, sometimes you can't publish your copy of the report in the app.

Considerations and limitations

  • As an app publisher, you have to make sure that your audience has access to datasets outside of the workspace. Otherwise, users will encounter issues when interacting with your app: reports won't open without dataset access and dashboard tiles will show as locked. Also, users won't able to open the app if the first item in its navigation is a report without access to the dataset.
  • By design, Publish to web doesn't work for a report based on a shared dataset.
  • If two people are members of a workspace that is accessing a shared dataset, it's possible that only one of them can see the related dataset in the workspace. Only people with at least Read access to the dataset can see the shared dataset.

Hi v-zhangti,

when I say "Allow users to make a copy of the reports in this app"

shoundnt than published the copy the report (or built) permissions to the app? I have a simple dataset and before it always worked. No shared dataset. Otherwise i have to go through all audience and give them built permissions.

Looks still a little bit stange for me Sorry 🙂

PS: when i go to the dataset permission and allow write or built permissions the colleagues can copy the report. but shouldnt that happen automatically when i check the box where i allow them to copy the report while create an app?
