connected to semantic model using Live Connect shows Import Mode but does not show Table View?

Hello everybody,

I connected to a semantic model in workspace premium, it did not give me the option to choose between Import mode or DirectQuery mode.

When I open the model view, it see it is in Import mode, but the Table View is missing, my understanding is that if it is Import mode, then data is stored inside the PBIX file and I should be able to see the Table View and the data as well.

Am I misunderstanding the purpose of Live Connection?

Hi @SaiTejaTalasila ,thanks for the quick reply, I'll add further.

Hi @BenBlackswan ,

Regarding your question, the connection to the shared semantic model is 'Live Connection'. Details can be found in the following article.

Connect to semantic models in the Power BI service from Power BI Desktop - Power BI | Microsoft Lear...

Since the only options for the storage model are 'import', 'direct query', 'dual', there is no 'live connection'. I think that's why 'import' is displayed, because neither 'import' nor 'live connection' can be modified. You can confirm your connection mode here.

Hi @BenBlackswan ,

To understand different connection modes you can refer this -

Hi @BenBlackswan ,

It looks currently your table is pulling data from that semantic model in direct query mode ,but your source semantic model is in import mode.Come to report view and at right hand side bottom you can check in which mode your current pbix file is in (direct query or mixed mode).

Thanks,

Sai Teja

It says connected live
