I am trying to create a single dashboard, where I can show usage statistics for different reports in different workspaces.
So far I am combining my Power BI datasets:
Of usage…
So far its ok, but I need a new dimension (user dimension); this dimension resides only on a sql server and a SSAS on premise that I have.
Is it a way to change this model to bring data from ssas (I don’t think so!), is there a way to take the model I created to sql server? Anyone attempted this before?
Yes, but it is in preview. Go to Settings, Preview, and turn on Direct Query of Power BI Datasets and Analys Services and restart.
Then, reopen your report. You may need to click a URL at the bottom right that will allow you to make changes to the model. Then you can bring in data from other places.
Be careful though. The feature is still in preview, and you can have performance issues vs a pure Import model. If it is just a list of users, probably not a big deal unless you work at a multi-national with 300K users. Take a look at this article for more info. MCSA: BI ReportingWe use the Power BI activity logs to extract audit data from our entire tenant which we can then transform, integrate and model to our needs. There are also some new features due soon out-of-the-box so to speak, though this in itself does not solve the user data enrichment requirement you have:
