another cross directional relationship question

hi i show my peer's pbi semantic model relationships for a dashboard he is standing up.   This is mostly about rolling up sales $'s into various visuals.

its basically a star and while i've obfuscated much of it , there is  a biz unit code in all of those records, not necesessarily a biz unit surrogate key except in 2 of them, sales and biz unit.

his biz unit and facility slicers arent acting interdependently, ie one doesnt influence the choices of the other and vice versa.   I want to tell him to make the relationships i show "both" but want to warn him of the downside including but not limited to performance and to be honest, i dont know if that suggestion would break what he's doing anyway.  We can easily add views that define that relationship independently of their sales relationship but i need ideas.

Can the community help?

  • before trying that, my peer messed with 1) visual filters , 2) “Edit Interactions” on the viz format tab.   He doesnt think #2 affected anything.   But it is fixed.  I'm going to have to look at it in the coming days and make a best guess of what fixed it.   I'll post back here what (if anything) i find.

  • While bidirectional relationships should generally be avoided they may indeed be required in this scenario. Why don't you try it out and check if the results are usable, and if the users understand what is happening?
