You can't use invalid or duplicate emails

Hi ,

I am trying to configure a service principal into my Power BI environment. I have created the app registration and added that credential to a security group, so far so good. However, within the Power BI environment whenever I try to add the security group to permissions for a workspace, or to add to the group for the API settings in the Admin portal, I am unable to add the security group (or any group). I can only add users with an email address. The error I receive is 'You can't use invalid or duplicate emails'

Although that's an old post, I will leave it here if someone else still encounters this issue.

I encountered the same problem and at least one reason for it seems to be common prefix names for AAD security groups. For instance if you're trying to add a group called CLD-EU-PBI-US and you have other groups called CLD-EU-PBI-US-West and/or CLD-EU-PBI-US-East, you might be getting that error if you're simply copy pasting the CLD-EU-PBI-US group name. That seems to be a Microsoft bug as it tries to map your input string to AAD groups and there is more than one satisfying the query (that's my suspcicion, at least). To solve this, try to remove the last character and then select the group from the drop down or type in the group name by hand and select the correct value when it shows in the field drop down.

Another possible reason might be having deleted/inactive users in the AAD group you're trying to add.

Hi @mp2589 ,

This issue that you can’t use invalid or duplicate emails had been confirmed as a known issue internally.

This issue is in the process of being fixed, but there is no estimated time for the fix at this time. Please be patient and wait for the fix.

If there is any progress, I will keep you updated.

I still cannot ad a security group to the workspace - only email addresses

I got the same issue (Or a similar one).  I can pick named users, but not groups.

It works well at the Workspace level (Groups are listed), only when trying to set permissions on reports that I get the error.

I have tried with two different reports in two different Workspaces (One Premium, the other no), but the same behavior happens everywhere, works fine with Workspaces but unable to pick the groups on individual Reports.

This is a show-stopper for us as far as deployment of the report goes because we will need to share it to 125 users and it is not an option to have them listed by name because it goes over the 100 limit sharing capacity and is just too time-consuming.

We're really in a dead-end here, any help would be greatly appreciated (And I have seen this work before for another customer).
