Hello,
I want to confirm with someone my understanding of workspace name changes. We just migrated up to F64 so we can centralize our evironment and as part of this effort, we are looking at a number of changes to align processes and best practices. One of the things I am looking to do is change the names of workspaces to better organize them. Many of our workspace have published apps. I believe changing a workspace name will not affect published apps, but I need confirmation. Can anyone clarify?
thanks!

Hi Alandwehr,
It will not impact App,
but if any report uses direct query connection to any of the dataset in that workspace means, the report will break.
We need to remap to the dataset by using datasource settings in local PBIX file and republish to the workspace.
Thank you! That is what I thought, but wanted confirmation.

It will, however, impact XMLA based access which for some weird reason uses the group/workspace name rather than the GUID. In the olden days it was even possible to have two workspaces in your tenant with the same name, and then you had to concatenate name and GUID. Nowadays you can't rename to a value that already exists in the tenant.
Hi @Alandwehr
You are right, Changing the name of a Power BI workspace will not affect the published app associated with it. You can proceed with your workspace reorganization.
The continuity of the published app and its URL is maintained because Power BI identifies workspaces and apps using unique identifiers (GUIDs) in the backend. These GUIDs are assigned upon creation and remain static, even if you change the user-facing name of the workspace. The URL for your published app is tied to this GUID, not the editable workspace name.
