Workspace Viewer can't see workspace objects

I have several users that have 'viewer' access to a workspace.  They can connect and use data in this workspace from PBI desktop without issues.  When they open the PBI service and navigate to the workspace in question, there is nothing listed, it just looks empty.

Why can they see the objects in the PBI tools, but not the workspace browser?

Hi @dbartel

This is because the "viewers" also have "build" rights on the datasets, and there are no Reports in the Workspace.

Normally "viewers" only see Reports and Dashboards in a Workspace, they do not see the Datasets (or other constructs, Dataflows etc.) However they can see the Datasets by going to the "Data Hub"  and from there they can request access. (there is an admin setting "Discover Content" that can turn off this behaviour).

If they have been given "build" rights on the Dataset, they can connect to the Dataset either from the Data Hub, or from Power BI Desktop. Even though they do not see the Datasets in the Workspace.

Hope this helps

Stuart

Hi @dbartel ,

Are these viewers guest users?
If so, please let them use the Tenant URL to access the workspace.
You can find it in the Power BI service, in the header menu, select help (?), then select About Power BI. Look for the value next to Tenant URL.

The users are not guests they have 'viewer' access to the workspace.
