Working with subject area model

Scenario:

A Subject area data model has been developed for single subject say HR in Premium Gen2 capacity  and all Developers must use Live connection.

There are 5 reports connected to it in Dev env having separate report workspaces ( 1 for 5 reports)and dataset workspaces( 1 for Dataset)

Question:

One Developer from the HR subject area group is working on a specific report and makes report and data model changes and wants to refresh data without impacting others work. Hence a question how this has to be handled now ? What options are recommended ?

In Developer built self serve models , the developer had control on making changes to report and model without impacting others but in Subject area model those options are gone .
