Which SQL 2016 license is requirement for using the Enterprise Gateway?
Hello!
This question has been bugging me as well. I would very much would like offical answer from PBI team! I have emailed Microsoft local office, Microsoft regional office and [email protected] with this question without any serious answers.
If someone has any information on this, please share. We have a project starting that is dependant on this answer :)
Thanks!

Sandy chass Would it be possible to get an "official" PBI team answer to the above thread. Does the use of the EG gateway require Enterprise level SQL for SSAS or will Standard work for SQL 2016?

Advocate I
I got a response from Microsoft on my question.
Microsoft:
Enterprise Gateway gives you the benefit of using Analysis Services Tabular mode in DirectQuery mode and this is Enterprise Edition only feature. Other than that I think there is no specific requirement for the customer to use Enterprise Edition with Enterprise Gateway.
Wouter:
Just to confirm. My client only wants to use the live connection to Tabular Model – so not the DirectQuery mode. Can I tell him that the Standard Edition is sufficient?
Microsoft:
Yes, technically speaking Standard Edition is sufficient.
