What API can a client app use for downloading reports from Power BI service/server in PBIT format?

Our client application will need to download in PBIT format all reports stored in a workspace on Power BI service/sever.

We couldn't find endpoints in Power BI REST API that allow download or export of reports in PBIT format. The export endpoint that we found supports PBIX format only.

We couldn't find PBIT file access or conversion in the Power BI integration in PowerShell features either.

We couldn't find any API that client application can use with Power BI Desktop application to get reports in PBIT format from the server.

Please advise what API can we use to achieve this goal.

Hi @dmitryk-rs

As far as I know there is no other way to do it other than a manual effort.

Hi @dmitryk-rs

As it stands today you can only download the PBIX version.

You can vote or create an idea at https://ideas.powerbi.com

I always suggest having a local copy of any PBIX file, if you have the PBIX file you could use Power Automate with RPA to save all the files into a PBIT format?

Hi @GilbertQ ,

Thank you for your answer. I am aware about Power Automate with RPA soluton and have seen samples.

PBIX file may contain sensitieve or/and confidential information. So we are looking for a solution where PBIX files with the sensitie information do not leave the service/server. Our goal is to collect PBIT files that contain metadata information and do not embed sensitive and confidential data.
