Web Data Sources - PowerBI insisting on Gateway Install

I have created a report with 3 web sources:

1. Azure SQL Database

2. Web - Sharepoint File

3. Web - Sharepoint File

All three data sources are accessible with our company Microsoft credentials with 2FA. All three online data sources are accessible for PowerBI Desktop.

However when I publish the report - PowerBI Online is insisting on a Gateway Installation.

I can't even turn off "use a data gateway". It's greyed out.

My understanding is there's no need for a Gateway Installation if all sources are web - let alone all Microsoft web services accessible for our company credentials

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi there

Depending on how you connect to the file via the Power Query Editor will determine if you need the Gateway.

As it stands currently the way you are connecting to your document requires a gateway to connect to the file even though it is hosted online.

The datasource is connected as an Azure SQL Database. Nothing complicated.

A direct connection to an Azure SQL Database should not require a local gateway.

That is correct, but when connecting to a web source in the same PBIX file, it requires a gateway to access both and complete the refresh.

That's not the issue though.

Even when I create a blank report with only the Azure SQL Table as a data source- PowerBI online still demands the use of a Gateway.

I am using organisational O365 credentials with 2-Factor activated to connect to the Azure SQL Table. Is that an issue?
