Waterfall chart issue when exporting PDF

Hi there!

I have been constructing a Waterfall diagram in PowerBI using a pre-specified standard provided by a customer. This means that I need intermediate steps in the Waterfall diagram that display sort of a total remainder after a few categories. I was not able to make this with the standard Waterfall Diagram, but instead I found a custom visual that suited this problem ("Simple Waterfall"). The result is below:

My problem appears when I try to export a PDF of a report containing this visual. After exporting from PowerBI service, the visual does not follow the sorting order defined by the X-axis, resulting in the following:

As you can see, a few of the categories have been rearranged after the export. I've tried a lot of things to get around this, but it appears to be a problem with the custom visual, or maybe I'm missing something. This problem does not appear when I export a PDF directly from PowerBI Dekstop.

My question is if anyone has had a similar problem and possibly solved it either using this particular custom visual or perhaps a different approach using the MS "Waterfall Chart"? I for one can not seem to get these sub steps into the original visual provided by MS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hi Anonymous ,

If you go to the publisher's page for this visual, you will see that some other folks have had the same issue.  I would suggest that you contact the publisher about this.  And, if you don't get satisfaction there, you should probably contact Microsoft since this is a certified visual and therefore should be working as expected.

      Hi collinq

      I appreciate the response!

Yes, I noticed that as well on the publister's page. Is there any other approach I can take to solving this problem? I'm not sure if it is possible to make something similar using a bar chart or something entirely different?

        Hey Anonymous ,

Well, there are other Waterfall visuals available, but they all have additional purchase required on them.
