Visuals break when moving report measures to datasets

So I have 100's of measures in thin reports which are connected to a dataset. I duplicated 10 of the report level measures to the dataset and deleted the report level measures and now I see that the visuals referencing those measures are broken. The names of the measures are the same and they are in the same Measures Table as before. I would have thought the visuals wouldn't break as I recall doing it a few years ago and it was all fine (unless I have a foggy memory). Can anyone confirm if it is happening to you as well and is expexted outcome ?
