Hi
We are encountering an intermittent issue with Power BI Visuals not always refreshing on dashboards after a dataset refresh.
- Datasource - Sharepoint Excel Document - Not a live connection
- Refresh - Sometimes Manual and Sometimes a Scheduled refresh
- We have Power BI Premium
To confirm that I have checked 2 other posts as below and they do not reflect our issue
I have checked the following posts already and they do not quite reflect our issue -
visualizations-not-updating-after-data-refresh
/Visuals-not-updating-with-latest-data-after-refresh-is-completed
Refresh Visuals on the service
Our problem is that -
- The data is updated in the source
- Our Dataset will successfully refresh
- We open/view the report but it not reflecting any of the changes that have taken place
- In order to resolve this issue we need to select the "Refresh Visuals" button as below -
- We will be able to see the changed data
- Just to confirm occasionally if this does not work we have to edit the document in Power BI Service (as below)
And refresh the visuals from there.
I have found this page on the Microsoft site about "Understanding Data Refresh"
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/refresh-data#understanding-data-refresh
It seems to indicate report visuals do not get refreshed? I am understanding this correctly - is someone able to assist me.
Thanks
Karen
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hi @KarenL7
What happens is that the report page visuals are cached. The next time you open the page it possibly is using the previous cache.
In order to see the updated data you either have to interact with the visuals.
Or you could click on the refresh visuals icon.
Or do a CTRL +F5 to reload the entire page which will then refresh the visuals.
I am honestly not sure why this was marked as a solution as the data visuals should update automatically at refresh. If you are experiencing intermittent issues, the automatic caching with large queries is likely the issue. Can't someone just turn off auto caching?
Hi @DAXLord
Just to let you know that the reason I marked it as a solution for me at the time was 2 solutions suggested worked - and I have not had the issue since.
Thanks for the suggestion though
Karen
Thank you for coming back to me.
That makes sense, particularly as Power BI is viewed through a browser, that is something I hadn't considered previously. Particularly as it is an intermittent issue.
Thanks again
Karen
