Visual header icon settings - apply to PBI Service Dashboard tiles?

Hello All,

is there a way to disable header icon functions (such as focus mode) in PBI Service dashboard tiles?

Specifically, I want to disable the focus mode in the PBI dashboard tiles, as this provides the user with all filters from the original PBIX file even if they are hidden (which apparently is as designed - https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Service/Hiding-filter-pane-in-In-Focus-mode/m-p/2221498/highlight/t...).

I was hoping that disabling headers (or the relevant header icons) would help (see below for my steps), but this doesn't seem to affect the focus mode in the PBI dashboard. I have also tried setting the "Hide the visual header in reading view" for the published report on PBI Service, but this doesn't disable the focus mode in the dashboard tiles, and it's not appropriate for my needs as specifically don't want to disable all header icons in the report (just some for some visuals).

Is there anything else I could try please to disable focus mode in the PBI service dashboard tiles, or keep filters hidden as set up in the original report?

Here is what I tried using the disabling header icons functionality:

 - I disabled header icons (including focus mode) in PBI Desktop for my report file

 - uploaded the report to PBI Service (on a side note, frustratingly, the header icon settings don't show on the report once it is uploaded in the Service. The settings can be seen in the formatting pane if I open the report in editing mode, but the visuals show all headers regardless. I can work around this by re-setting the header in the PBI service report editing mode and then disabling the header icons again. As far as i can see this is currently as expected - if you can please upvote the related idea https://ideas.powerbi.com/ideas/idea/?ideaid=c4548c8d-185c-4734-8d83-3c7905f36e13)

 - pinned visual with disabled header icons to PBI service dashboard.

On the dashboard, the focus mode is NOT disabled, it can be accessed by the end user resulting in the unwanted access to all hidden filters.

unwanted access to all hidden filters.

What are you trying to achieve?  Is that helping your report/dashboard users?

Hi,

Ultimately I don't want my users to have access to filters that were deliberately hidden in the report, regardless of whether they are looking at the report or dashboard on the PBI Service workspace or in the App.

It works fine as long as users don't go into Focus mode for a visual, at which point they can see and change all filters applicable to the visual, including the ones that were deliberately hidden and locked down. This seems to be working as designed (see e.g. https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Service/Hiding-filter-pane-in-In-Focus-mode/m-p/2221498/highlight/t...), so I explored disabling the focus mode in the visual header settings. This is when I noticed that disabling the focus mode in the report doesn't transfer to the dashboard, so if a visual with disabled focus mode is pinned to the dashboard it still has the focus mode enabled.

So my main issue is that I can't keep dashboard users from seeing and applying filters that are deliberately hidden in the report, it doesn't make sense and it's going to cause more confusion than be of any benefit.

Thank you 🙂
