Views not available for semantic model

I've just set up a set of views to meet requirements for reporting but when trying to create a semantic model, no views are displayed. Searching online seems to indicate that views should be available so is there a setting somewhere that needs to be set? Or are views only available if using a Warehouse whereas I've created views in a Lakehouse?

Hi @Kryt0n ,

By default, views are not shown in the list of source objects when creating a semantic model. This behavior is because views added as tables into a Direct Lake model always require a fallback to DirectQuery mode. You can refer to:Improvements for creating new Direct Lake semantic models | Microsoft Power BI Blog | Microsoft Powe...

Hope it helps!

Thanks, I have discovered they show up in PowerBI (I'm assuming when using default model as creating a separate model doesn't allow us to include views). Based on what you're saying, even though available, they're going to query the database each usage, is that right? How different would that be to referencing the tables themselves?

Is there a new approach to role-playing tables then? Generally a view is created for each role, should that approach change?

Hi @Kryt0n ,

This seems to be a new feature and there may be no other way to do it for now.

If you would like to suggest feature improvements, you may vote the idea and comment here to improve this feature. It is a place for customers provide feedback about Microsoft Office products . What’s more, if a feedback is high voted there by other customers, it will be promising that Microsoft Product Team will take it into consideration when designing the next version in the future.
