Viewer with build permission, shared dataset problem

Hello, I have an issue with the build permission in Power BI Service.

I have a workspace with a dataset, an user with reader rights + Build permission on the dataset concerned.

He doesn't see the dataset when using the Power BI Dataset connector (Power BI Desktop)

Workspace in Power BI premium licence
+ User with Pro licence

Is this a "old" "Classic" workspace? Your reference to "reader rights" makes me think so, in V2 Workspaces they are "Viewer rights". If so, I'm not sure this will work, you may need to upgrade the Workspace to V2.

see Upgrade classic workspaces to the new workspaces - Power BI | Microsoft Docs

    See if that changes things.

Other than that check your Admin has not restricted Dataset Access accross workspaces in tenant setting, which I think will stop the Dataset showing up in Power BI Desktop.

    Hope this helps

    Hi DGTL

What type of Premium licence is the Workspace on?

If it's Premium Per User (PPU) the Pro user won't see the Dataset, only other PPU licences will be allowed to access.

If it's Premium Per Capacity they should be able to see it, check the rights and login name on Desktop are correct.

    Hope this helps

Hey, thank tou for your Answer

This is a P1 premium Capacity.

Same account on Power BI service and Power Bi Desktop.

User with viewer role on the workspace with, reshare permission (dataset & report), and Build permission (Dataset)
