Using Mail Enabled Security Group for Power Report Subscription

Hi all,

Can anyone confirm if that works? I know that the basic Security group doesnt work. But Mail Enabled Security Group should theoretically work.

Context: I am subscribing reports for other users in a Premium Gen2 workspace. And looking to automate the subscription process using mail enabled security group.

Thanks for the response! Yes all the requirements have been met.

The only thing that was missing was setting the correct Delivery Management for that security group. When using power bi subscription with the mail enabled security group, you must whitelist Power BI service as a sender, if not, Power BI service will not be able to send email to the security group.

    Hi Tutu_in_YYC ,

In my opinion, this is possible. However, for environmental reasons (I don't have premium space for testing, giving groups subscriptions requires premium space).

And to be able to use email subscriptions in Power BI, you need to take into account:

    • The person creating the subscription needs to have edit permissions to the report/dashboard, so a Pro license is also required
    • Users receiving the email must also have a Pro license, or the workspace must be in Premium capacity
    • There is a tenant setting in the Power BI Admin Portal called Email Subscriptions which has to be enabled
    • If there are external users in that distribution list, there is an additional setting in the Admin Portal called Invite external users to your organization, which also has to be enabled

Also be aware there are several considerations/limitations:

    • Currently, email subscriptions for reports and dashboards using live connection datasets aren't supported when subscribing users other than yourself
    • For Power BI apps, you can only create subscriptions for others if you are the owner of the app.

    And refer:

Thanks v-luwang-msft for all the info. I have considered them, but still not working.

      1- Workspace is premium

2- Person creating the subscription has Admin role and Pro license

3- Tenant setting has been enabled

4- Not using live dataset nor Power BI apps

No error was given out during the subscription set up.

Users that were entered using regular personal received the subscription, the Mail enabled security group did not.

If anybody can confirm through testing or experience, that will be great appreciated.
