Using DirectQuery for Power BI datasets users are not able to view the data in the report

Hello everyone,

I built one report which uses 3 different datasets from 2 different workspaces. But when I am trying to share this report with other users or users who are already in the workspace and trying to access this report it gives error on all the visuals.

Any idea what could be the issue.
Users have access to all the individual reports.

  • Yes, this is what ibarrau ment by giving access to the dataset.

For Shared dataset user has to have access on source dataset as well (App user/viewer), so you have to give your users access on the source datasets (3 datasets in 2 different workspace).

  • Hi. Three datasets, interesting. You should share those datasets with the users too (at least as viewer). It won't be enough with the report with direct query, they need to have permission against the data.

    I hope that make sense

Hi ibarrau , Thank you for your reply but as I mentioned users do have access to those reports and buid permissions on the dataset. Still they are getting this error.

Another thing which I just tried and it worked is, if I gave this user access to the both workspaces then they are able to view the report i.e, no cross marks on the visuals. Which is for me starnge, since I gave access to the dataset to people it should also work. Any idea ?
      Best,
      Ashu
