Users Unable to Load Visuals After Switching to Shared Semantic Model
I've been working on switching our reports from individual semantic models to a shared semantic model. The reports have all published without an issue and I'm able to open them all with no problem in our Power BI app after updating it. However, the other users of the app are getting an error when trying to open the reports now (below). Even the other admin in the workspace is getting this error on some reports, but not all. Any suggestions?
To grant read access to the shared semantic model,
- navigate to the workspace where the model exists
- hover over the semantic model, select More options (three dots ...), then select Manage permissions
- in the Direct access section, add the users
If you are using row level security, from the semantic model -> More options, select Security, and add users to the appropriate groups.
- You only need to do this if you have implemented RLS in your semantic model.

Not sure if the shared model is in the same workspace or different, but report consumers will need to be granted read access to the shared semantic model.

It is in the same workspace. I saw that RLS security moved to Power BI Desktop so I created an empty RLS role and am testing that now. Where would you provide read access in the Power BI Service for the semantic model itself? Most of my users access reports through a published app and do not have workspace access directly at all.
