User access group for Power BI APP & SSAS Model
Hi,
I am trying to provide access to a group (AAD group / Azure Group) of people for Power BI App & its base model i.e. SSAS tabular model.
Please help to understand the following:
- Can we use one group to provide access for both the services i.e.
- Tabular model (ssas) - member can only view the dataset & use filter options on data when viewing Power BI report.
- Power BI App : member can view the reports in the app, use filter options on the dataset
- What type of group to use for both the services (SSAS Model & Power BI App i.e. group type : Office group OR group type: Security or any other group)
- If user 'Tom' is added to Group : A, can 'Tom' also be added to Group : B? and if yes are there any limitations with respect to role, feature, etc.
Thanks
Stuti
Hi Anonymous ,
1. For a & b, you could grant viewer role to them.
Reference:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-new-workspaces#roles-in-the-new-workspaces
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-datasets-build-permissions
2. You could add the same groups for them. The group type is not based on the different tools. You could reference the document:Compare groups to create groups based on your own requirement.
3.Yes. If you grant the two groups the different roles, the permission of Tom is based on a larger role.
