Use of Apps

Hello,

I am not clear on the use of Apps.

1. Can I only publish a single App in my workspace?

2. Are Apps available to users outside of my organization?

3. Overall what is the use of Apps?

Thank You,

Michael

Hello!

1. Yes, currently there is only one app per workspace but you can make it work like multiple apps through Audiences. Also, multi apps for single workspace is in the pbi road map.

2. Yes, you can. However, they will not access it through the App button in service. They'll get the link you give them and they can bookmark that.

3. I only ever add developers to a workspace. I use the app to share content with report consumers. If someone wants to utilize the datasets for ad-hoc needs I also grant build access.

Hi @mikebi

1. Can I only publish a single App in my workspace?

  • No, you can publish multiple apps from a single workspace. Each app can contain different reports, dashboards, and datasets from the workspace, allowing you to tailor the content to different audiences.

    2. Are Apps available to users outside of my organization?

    3. Overall what is the use of Apps?

    • Purpose of Apps:

      • Organize and Share: Apps allow you to package and distribute content (dashboards, reports) to other users in your organization.
      • Read-only View: Users who access an app get a read-only view, ensuring the integrity of your data and reports.
      • Ease of Access: Users can easily find and access the apps shared with them in the Apps section of Power BI.
      • Version Control: When you update the content in the workspace, you can republish the app to ensure users always have the latest version.

Hello,

It looks to me that a Power BI Workspace can only have a single app.

This app can have multiple reports?

Is that correct?

Michael

Hi @mikebi

Each Workspace can only have one APP, but inside the same APP you create multiple Audiences.
Each Audience is a combination of reports or report pages, which gives you the same functionality as having multiple Apps per workspace.
