Use a data source setting that doesn't exist on my laptop

Hello!

I've made a report for a colleague that doesn't use Power BI, he neither have installed Power BI Desktop on his laptop.

My idea is to send him the pbi. file, so he can upload it on the Service and then update the report from there throught the personal gateway that he's installed.

For that, when I finished the report I tried changing the data source settings with the Excel file path that he has on his laptop, so the report is ready for him to be used, because as far I as know it is not possible to change the data source on the Service.  But I can´t use his path on the power bi desktop report that I made before sending it to him beucase it's not recognized and it won't save.

Any solution?

Thanks,

Jesus.

Hi @Anonymous ,

1. You can upload the excel to a shared website that you and your colleague have access to, such as SharePoint, and then use Desktop to connect to the excel file in SharePoint. In this way, you can directly connect to your colleague's excel file.

2. Or you can use parameters to change the data source. For specific operations, please refer to this document. In this way, you can modify the parameters on PowerBI Service to the excel path of your colleague.

If the problem is still not resolved, please provide detailed error information or the expected result you expect. Let me know immediately, looking forward to your reply.

That sounds like a really convoluted scenario. Please explain what you are trying to ultimately achieve .
