Usage Metrics - Unable to load the model

Hello,

We are working with a usage metrics dashboard we've customized.

After a modification of the report we suddenly received an error message.

Unable to load the model

Since then we cannot see any Usage metrics, even using the out of the box "Usage Metrics" option on top right corner of a dashboard.

Error message in detail is:

Unable to load the model

HI @bmontandon,

Does this feature works on other reports? If you can't use this feature on each reports, I think it may related to portal settings.(admin can turn off usage metrics feature at power bi admin portal)

In addition, I'd like to suggest you to check datasource of these report, some similar issue is caused wiht datasource related issues.

August release: Unable to load the data model

BTW, you can also take a look at below link told about usage metrics feature and its limitation.

Usage metrics for dashboards and reports

Spoiler

Considerations and limitations

Q: I can't run usage metrics on a dashboard or report
A: You can only see usage metrics for content you own or have permissions to edit.

Q: Will usage metrics capture views from embedded dashboards and reports?
A: Usage metrics currently does not support capturing usage for embedded dashboards and reports, including the user owns data flow, the app owns data flow and the publish to web flow. In those cases, we recommend using existing web analytics platforms to track usage for the hosting app or portal.

Q: I can't run usage metrics on any content at all.
A1: Admins can turn off this feature for their organization. Contact your Admin to see if this is the case.
A2: Usage metrics is a Power BI Pro feature.

Q: The data doesn't seem up-to-date. For example, distribution methods don't show up, report pages are missing, etc.
A: It can take up to 24 hours for data to update.

Q: There are four reports in the workspace but the usage metrics report only displays 3.
A: The usage metrics report only includes reports (or dashboards) that have been accessed in the past 90 days. If a report (or dashboard) does not show up, likely it hasn't been used in more than 90 days.

Hello Xiaoxin Sheng and thank you for your answer,

The feature "Usage Matrics" is working fine for all dashboards in all Workspaces except one.

It was working fine in this workspace too until we created a Homemade Usage Metrics dashboards.

At save time it displayed error on each and every objects with message about Data Model unable to be loaded.

Since then, on this Workspace, there's no way to see any Usage Metrics at all, and when I click "Edit" on my homemade Usage Metrics I cannot see any fields anywhere (see screenshots attached) so I can't revert what I did... I also tried deleting the homemade dashboard but it doesn't change anything, the model is still not loaded anymore.

It really looks like if we broke the data model of usage metrics 😞

@Anonymous: I carefully read the 2 links you mentionned and they doesn't help me too much.

I also confirmed with Admins that feature is turn on.

I've got to say that I'm a bit lost

Any help would be great.

Thank you

Brice

HI @bmontandon,

I can't reproduce your issue on my side.
I think you need to submit a support ticket to get more support from power bi team.
