Updating Power BI Dashboard Data in SharePoint from Excel

If I upload a Power BI dashboard to a SharePoint page, how can I update/refresh the data that comes from an Excel file? Should I store the Excel file in an online location like a company network drive or OneDrive?

How can I avoid having to delete and re-upload the dashboard each time?

Hi. When working with excel as data source, it's a good idea to store them in an onedrive for business or Sharepoint Online. That way you can run refreshes directly without a Gateway (that work as bridge from local data and PowerBi). Once you create a report connected to that kind of source you can publish the report to Power Bi Service. In order to keep the data up to date, you should configure a schedule refresh and credentials at the semantic's model report. After checking that you can refresh the report from the Power Bi Service you can continue. Reports in Power Bi Service have some features like embedding the report in a Sharepoint page. When you add the report at your sharepoint page it should update automatically with the same data that you have at Power Bi Service.

Remember that the license stays the same. If the report is published in a premium/fabric F64 workspace, any one with access to sharepoint can see. However, if you don't have that license, only PowerBi Pro users will be able to open the report at sharepoint.

Store the Excel file on OneDrive or a company network drive to ensure that Power BI has access to the latest data.
I  agree  with the suggestion made by ibarrau. In this way, real-time data updates are realized directly from the data source itself. So when your semantic model fetches data (when it triggers a refresh), the fetched data is always the latest data in the cloud.

The data update in report/dashboard depends on the semantic model (in Import mode), so you need to make sure that the data in your semantic model is up-to-date. (You mentioned that your data source is Excel and the data connection mode is Import).
Setting scheduled refresh can ensure that the data stored in semantic model is updated in time. So you can configure an appropriate refresh schedule.
You can try to automate these refresh operations, using Power BI Automate can help you to automate the task of refreshing semantic model.
