Updating Dashboard Visuals Upon Report Visual Updated

Hi,

So currently the process is to publish from Power Bi Desktop, go to power Bi Service, under reports I would send pin my visuals to by dashboard.

The issue I come across is that if I publish an update through Power Bi Desktop, the visuals within the dashboards don't get updated. I have to delete them and re-pin them. This gets alittle bit tedious, may I ask is there a way to update all the way to dashboards upon publish?

minh23tran Tiles are seperate elements in themselves. If you change the visual type of the original that you pinned, the tile won't update. The data will continue to update, but you are stuck with manually changing them if you want a different visual.

    Hi,

I can’t reproduce your issue.  Report in service can be automatically updated after being published from desktop.

This is the visual in desktop:

After publishing and pining to dashboard:

Now I changed the visual in desktop.

After publishing, the dashboard look like below.

You can see that the report above is changed to the same with what showed in desktop.

Can you tell me which visuals you are using and what update you have made on them?

And also I advise you to download the latest power bi desktop and try again.

    Best Regards

    Alex

Hi AlexChen, try a tile metric instead of a graph. Change the font colour and pin it to dashboard. You'll notice the font always remains black.

I am seeing similar behavior.  I changed a data color on a stacked column chart visual, but while the data refreshed when I republished the report, the Dashboard visual is not showing the new data color.

I'm seeing this same issue over and over. If I make an update and publish from the desktop copy then all my dashboards are unlinked and need to be recreated. Its especially frustrating because I have to go through this every month.

Can we get a linked copy that will update? Isn't that the point of the dashboard?
