We are running into some issues when connecting a Dataflow to an onpremise SQL Server.
We get the following error message when configuring the connection:
Unknown error from external service: DMTS_PublishDatasourceToClusterErrorCode
This only happens with PowerBI Dataflows. If we connect to the same SQL data source from inside PowerBI we don't encounter this error.
When you say "within Power BI" are you referring to Desktop on the same network as the SQL Server? - Correct
Is the SQL Server a Microsoft SQL Server? - Yes, On premise, not cloud
What connector are you using? - When I'm setting up the dataflow in PBI web I use the SQL Connector
I also just got off the call with Microsoft and they said it might to try using admin credentials in the connection and check firewall. I'm going to try and see
