Unexpected error - ApiRequest UnknownServiceError with status 500

I used +create to create a BI Service report, select Excel for data. In the next page, which is a Power Query window, I get the following error when I click on "Browse OneDrive" under connection settings.  I've tried both the "Link to file" and the "Upload file" option but get the same error.

It used to work but suddenly quit working.  How do I fix it?

Under Mashup script box, it shows "section section 1;.

Hi @MikeGanem3 ,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community forum.

The error you're encountering, "ApiRequest UnknownServiceError with status 500," typically indicates a server-side issue or a problem with the service you're trying to access. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot to resolve the issue:

  • Ensure that your OneDrive is properly connected. Clear your browser's cache and cookies, as corrupted cache data can sometimes lead to unexpected errors.
  • If you're using a specific browser, try accessing the Power Query window using a different browser to see if the issue persists.
  • Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to access the OneDrive files. If your permissions have changed, it could lead to access issues.
  • Log out of your Power BI account and OneDrive, then log back in. This can refresh your session and resolve authentication issues.
  • If you're trying to access a specific file, ensure that the file path is correct and that the file is still available in OneDrive.
  • If possible, try connecting to a different Excel file to see if the issue is specific to the file you were initially trying to access.
  • If you're using a desktop version of Power BI, ensure that you have the latest version installed. Updates often include bug fixes and improvements.
