Understanding Premium User License for Refresh 48 Times

In my organization there are many users who all have a standard Power BI license. Now I have one report that needs an automatic refresh more than 8 times per day. As far as I learned for this I need a Power BI premium user license.

Is there anything else I need? Or is it really just one premium user license for every user who has access to the workspace of the report? So if three people from my organization need access to this report their licenses need to be upgraded to premium and that is it?

Hi. Kind off yes. I would first understand if it's really necessary 48 times. Then evaluate alternatives like Azure Analysis Services vs Power Bi Licenses. The power bi premium can be purchased for users (licence per user) or for capacity (licence per capacity). Both will let you refresh 48 times. The license per user will be cheaper if you have a small amount of users. All users, the creators and readers must have the PPU (premium per user) in order to build or view the report. The workspaces must turn on a PPU capacity setting. Once the diamond with the person shows next to the name of the workspace, all the datasets can be refreshed 48 times.

I hope that helps,

Hi. No it doesn't. Just having PPU will let you change the setting on a workspace the account is admin. Like this:

Once that setting is changed, you can refresh up to 48 times a day the dataset. You should see a diamond with a user next to the workspace name. Only PPU users can view the reports in the workspace.

I hope that helps,

So if I (PPU) schedules a refresh 20 times and share that report with pro license users, will the pro license users view an updated report?

Thanks a lot. For us it makes sense to use the premium license per user, as there are only few users needing it. You write that in this case a PPU capacity setting must be additionally turned on for the workspace. Does this cost extra?
