Hi, could anybody help clarify how ip address resolution works with a Power BI Worksapce in one tenant (Site A) connecting into a On-Premises Data Gateway on another tenant (Site B) and having the data source on the gateway (Site B) point to something like Synapse Analytics SQL Pool.
If I add a data source in the gateway with credential to Synapse it only appears to work when the ip address from power bi service is being requested. e.g 51.x.x.x is whitelisted in the synapse networking.
However, that ip address from power bi can change dynamically. Am i missing something, is there an easy way to control ip addressing to achieve this type of connection ? I was hoping I could control the ip addressing from the gateway side of things. So constant amendments to the networking firewall rules arent reqired.
In regards why this particular setup is being looked at, its to do with authentication issues and complications around different AAD in two different organisations. So on Side A we have joe.bloggs@ivemadethisup.org and on Side B we have joe.bloggs@thisisstillmadeup.org.
thanks
You cannot do that with standard enterprise gateways. Their scope is hard limited to their tenant.
Most likely you can do some trickery with Vnet gateways to make this work.
