We are trying to share a report with external users. Our infrastructure team have developed a script that adds the external users we wish to share the report with to Azure Active Directory and puts them in an office 365 unified group. This script runs on a schedule and adds/deletes users as necessary.
We have successfully used this group in an Azure Analysis Services role and we were also hoping to be able to share the report with this group (instead of adding/deleting them individually as needed). When I enter the email address of the group in the "Grant access to" box under "Share" it appears to accept it and I get the "Success! Your report has been shared successfully" confirmation. However, when I check the access list the group is not listed (and the users do not have access to the report).
Any ideas on why this isn't working? It must be to do with the sort of group as we have successfully shared reports with internal users via internal AD on premise mail enabled security groups, but our infrastructure team has advised that we can't add external users to those.
The set up of the user groups is not something I know a lot about but I hope this is enough information for those familiar with this area. I can ask our Infrastructure team for further information if not.
Thanks
@PaulKn While MSFT has lit up the use of O365 universal groups for some things, I think this particular scenario is still not operational. It likely has something to do with the different group types that make up a Universal Group that creates an un-supported scenario... I can't see any new information or announcements that would change that in my mind.
Thanks for the reply @Seth_C_Bauer. So I guess that means we are stuck with having to maintain an individual access list if we want to share a report with external users for now. If yourself or anybody else reading this thread has a suggestion on how to avoid this I would be greatful.
